The hazelnut whirl has gone!

Abbeygran Fri 22-Dec-17 11:58:07

Just thinking how most things that are said to be bad for us have shrunk.....whilst some of us (yours truly) have gotten a little larger! Merry Christmas gransnetters, hope all your hocolates are delicious whatever they are ?

Lilyflower Fri 22-Dec-17 11:56:13

Apart from the shrinking tins, the quality and content of both Roses and Quality Street have plummeted and I just don'y buy them any more. Roses are not even the same shape as they were and the chocolate tastes nasty.

I am rather stingy so I so I try to combine taste and economy. I buy Lindt bars, Fruit and Nut bars (under protest as the DH likes it and make my own Florentines which is a faff but they are beyond lovely. Ferrero Roche are still good for now.

In the New Year I am going to have a go at making my own cholcolate from scratch if it can be done in a kitchen.

annsixty Fri 22-Dec-17 11:51:20

No worries Nonnie I can be a grumpy old wotsit at times.?

kittylester Fri 22-Dec-17 11:49:32

I splashed out on the tin, because I've always loved the designs. But who is going to eat the pesky chocolates?

IngeJones Fri 22-Dec-17 11:48:36

What upsets me is the gradual disappearance of Coffee Creme from every brand of chocolate box. It has always been my favorite.

seadragon Fri 22-Dec-17 11:35:31

.......and they've all shrunk.......and the purple one (my personal favourite with the hazelnut in liquid caramel.....and the chocolate is insipid........and the PLASTIC 'tin' seemed half empty. Lindt 'seashells' for me too especially the seahorses!!

hildajenniJ Fri 22-Dec-17 11:28:41

Oh yes anitampl I remember those, they were lovely. I used to like the tins or Quality Street and Roses as I used the tins for storing home baked cakes and biscuits. You can hardly get anything into the plastic tubs they produce now.

NanaandGrampy Fri 22-Dec-17 11:24:57

NO GREEN TRIANGLES ???????

What is the world coming to ?

And while we're on the subject has anyone noticed the tubs of cheese footballs has shrunk ? But not the price !!!! Grrrrrr

anitamp1 Fri 22-Dec-17 11:20:39

Chocolates aren't what they used to be. Who remembers the bars of Milk Tray Chocolates from days gone by? They had 8 centres - strawberry, hazelnut, Turkish delight and soft caramel, amongst other they were a real treat at the cinema.

Teetime Fri 22-Dec-17 11:15:48

Well now I'm remembering the cracknell one that was in red paper and you took off the paper to look through it and all the aunties and uncles were red!

Margs Fri 22-Dec-17 10:51:00

Wot? No green triangles? Right, that's it - I'm off to the Ambassadors Cocktail Reception to snaffle as many Ferraro Rocher as I can cram into my handbag!

Nonnie Fri 22-Dec-17 10:50:24

Sorry ann didn't mean to spoil the fun just every time I hear anything about them I do tend to rant! I know so much about them and I suppose just want everyone else to join me in by boycott because I feel so passionate about it.

vampirequeen Fri 22-Dec-17 10:48:41

I've not bought the tins this year. I'm so disappointed with how they've shrunk. This year we've got Ferraro Roche, Matchmakers and Maltesers instead.

squirrel5 Fri 22-Dec-17 10:20:24

I prefer Roses to Quality at anyday ,even they have reduced in size
?

annsixty Fri 22-Dec-17 10:19:23

I do appreciate the thoughts behind the Nestle scandal but please, please can we have one light hearted thread not politicised.

OldMeg Fri 22-Dec-17 10:17:05

Oh no! I’d better open my box and check hmm

Wouldn’t want any nasty surprises on Christmas Day.

Angela1961 Fri 22-Dec-17 10:11:16

We gave up all the 'big tub' (not so big these days ) buying of chocolate quite a few years ago. We now just buy smaller quantities of much nicer ones ( think the seashell ones and lindt !)

Sheilasue Fri 22-Dec-17 10:09:10

I know we don’t buy it anymore so disappointed. Yep it’s hotel chocolat, got to have a good choccy fix.
Though I did get some chocs in Lidl last year and they were lovely so got some this year too.

Teetime Fri 22-Dec-17 10:08:19

Ah the blessed Hotel Chocolate is for Xmas Day - so in the run up I thought a few QS would be nice - just a pochette (1) not a whole tin - DH takes nothing into the body that has no business being there.

Jane10 Fri 22-Dec-17 10:02:23

Blimey. Back to Hotel Chocolat. The sacrifices I make!!

GabriellaG Fri 22-Dec-17 09:57:14

Gosh! I've never heard about any of that. Well...it's certainly opened my eyes about what these companies get up to. Fancy selling water back... (shakes head)

Luckygirl Fri 22-Dec-17 09:49:06

If a trifle mildly tchgrin

whitewave Fri 22-Dec-17 09:33:14

nonnie point well made

Nonnie Fri 22-Dec-17 09:29:13

Then boycott all Nestle products, we do.

Terrible company which takes water from poor villages in Pakistan and then sells it back to them. Not only the poor, does the same in California where there is drought. Also treat some of their staff appallingly.

Have you all forgotten the baby mild scandal?

Alima Fri 22-Dec-17 09:20:57

Teetime, maybe OH got to the box first?
