Feeling guilty about an unnecessary and extravagant purchase

I didn’t have a deprived childhood...but had to hide from the rent man more than once I remember!! But we as kids were always encouraged to pay the bills first then what’s left is for you to do with as you saw fit. Comics , sweets, saving. My parents were generous to a fault ( hence hiding from rentman) but they never said no to themselves and always encouraged open-handedness in us. But what you want...it’s your money..and stop saying “NO’ to yourself!

You spent the money wisely and, as it was your bonus, you had every right to. Enjoy your bedding!

Unless you’ve done something thoughtlessly or deliberately to hurt someone, then your conscience shouldn’t need salving. Do what you want otherwise and don’t waste time and effort in such indulgent navel gazing.

I believe that anybody who earns their money honestly is perfectly entitled to spend it any way they wish, and I think you have been very charitable. Enjoy it, and feel fortunate in having such a generous boss.

I've got about 8 for my bed but the most expensive was the Laura Ashley and a Descamps. It's better than booze and drugs!

Don't feel guilty. The money you spent on it was a bonus. You're only here once and you can't take it with you as they say. Enjoy your lovely bedding.

It doesn't matter what you spent it on. You worked well, got a large bonus and spent a small proportion of it on yourself. Why on earth not? What does it matter whether the money was spent on bed linen, prosecco or a spa day?

You must have worked hard to deserve your bonus- don't waste time talking yourself in to feeling guilty for spending it on something luxurious for yourself.

Lovely to walk in to your bedroom and enjoy the look of your beautiful new bedding, even better to snuggle down in to it and have a good night’s sleep. Sweet dreams. Guilt is a wasted emotion, especially when you’ve nothing to feel guilty about.

Cheers everyone! My new bedding was divine last night . It feels so cool and smooth; totally different to the M&S and Sainsburys bedding I've always had. Think I might have set a precedent though.... the old bedding feels so rough in comparison! Looking forward to going to bed early tonight where I can gaze at my navel in luxury! Happy Christmas everyone.

Lovely to see you Chewy and how sensible of you to treat your bedroom to some luxury bed linen. I hope you will also get something just for yourself as you’ve been so generous to others. Have a luxury pedicure or massage or whatever floats your boat. And have lots of lovely sleepful nights!

I'm like you annibach I treat everyone but feel guilty spending on myself drives oh mad we had coats on beds for warmth so I do like nice bedding enjoy it chewy you earned it .

We have a very nice cotton cellular blanket (John Lewis) which adds just enough warmth on chilly nights when the duvet is not enough.

I feel I can never throw anything away as I can always hear my mother saying "It will do a turn". My bedclothes are so old the cotton has washed out and its mostly polyester now. So inspired by you people I shall treat myself in the sales.

It's Sanderson, Wisteria Falls, Jalima. I got the whole kit and kaboodle - including the throw, blanket and cushions. The shock has worn off today and I'm smiling to myself now!

Men spending on the house lemon? I can only remember one thing that my ex bought for the house and that was a huge, ugly, gold coloured plastic framed mirror for the hall way. Sadly, it fell off the wall and broke into irreparable pieces.
