watermeadow I'm coming late to this thread, and I'm so sorry to read of your little dog's health problems. It's a horrible worry for you, and I do so hope it turns out to be not as bad as fear.

I find it really sad that someone should raise the subject at the funeral of someone who they must have known had anti brexit views. I also find it sad that someone like varians friend should leave this world/country not knowing how the future was going to pan out for us all.

I've had a couple of in unspayed spaniels that had mammary tumours; had them spayed and they both lived to a ripe old age (I now always have dogs spayed). My current dog (whippet) has a spindle cell cancer; she has had it for several years. I add turmeric to her food; supposed to reduce tumours. Not sure if it helps or not, but it makes me feel proactive; also for a time switched her to grain free food; again made me feel I was doing something to help. Easier said than done, but try to be positive. Hope everything turns out OK.

I totally empathise with you watermeadow, there is no such thing as “only” a dog.
However, it sounds as if these growths may well be benign, and you must be guided by your vet who will know best. So give your little dog the best possible life whatever the outcome.
That includes lots of walkies, treats in her stocking, some surreptitious nibbles of leftovers and a cheerful human . If you mope, she may well get stressed herself and of course she will have no idea why, so come on, be like your little dog and live in the moment live for NOW and let future worries take care of themselves.

It's strange we know when getting a pet that sometime they will be leaving us, but with the love we get from them we put ourselves through this heartache again and again.

How old is she watermeadow? Those of us who share our lives with Dogs understand how distessing a diagnosis like that is. As Annie said, dogs are family x

I had the same news today, adore my dogs, they are my family , we have to accept what comes but we can hope all will be well x

i had dogs for 40 years so i know what its like. My sympathy x

I do feel for you watermeadow, sad to say it's the price we pay for loving our doggies, & no doggie people don't feel it the same way. Try not to be upset by them, they just don't get it, so yes I'm afraid it is a bit of a lonely path . We know that it's the price we pay , our dogs know us & we identify with them in a way non doggies don't understand. We are the lucky ones , but it does come at a price ,stay strong & just try to accept that others just don't get it, but they mean no harm.
