Cold sores

No no farmor . Don't be complacent about this wretched virus!
It can be contained with a little effort.

Try not to worry- about two thirds of people get infected at some stage as they’re so common. If he doesn’t catch from you, will probably get from someone else later on.

Strange, isn't it, mcem? I used to get frequent cold sores, but hardly ever feel that tingle now. And apart from the solitary one DS once got, none of the rest of the family have ever suffered from them. They've been lucky - I've always been a hugger and kisser!

Seaside I suffer from cold sores too and at the first indication start slapping on acyclovir cream. It helps to cut down on the blistering and spreading.
To reassure you - mum passed this on to me (being rather less aware of the contagion back then) but my 3 children and 4 dgc's are totally clear.
Scrupulous handwashing, separate towels, mugs and cutlery plus intensive programmes on dishwasher all contain the virus.
Don't fret as it sounds as if your GS avoided the active stage.

Keep well away from children when suffering with cold sores, DH has suffered all his life since being infected as a child. Once infected it never leaves your body and will reactivate due to exposure in the sun or cold germs.

I'm putting acyclovir every two hours at the moment, they are a real nuisance.There's always something to worry about ! Love looking after him, but even when I don't have a cold or cold sore I never kiss him on the lips , just in case, but there again you can get them anywhere on the face, difficult to know what to do. Going to try and stopped worrying now, ha, that'll be the day.

It's awful, isn't it, when a worry takes hold? At least you're not tossing and turning in the middle of the night! Cold sores can be dangerous for young babies, but not usually for older children, so even the worst case scenario shouldn't be too serious. They're a ruddy nuisance though! I have actually discovered that if I dab on some aftershave at the first tingle, mine don't develop (I'm suggesting this for you, not for a 2 year old ).

Try not to worry too much, Seaside, you can't turn the clock back. Unfortunately cold sores are very common, but most sites say they are contagious from the time symptoms start, so fingers crossed. How old is your DGS?
