Where is it ??

Might sound silly but I say a prayer to St Anthony before I go to sleep if I’ve lost/mislaid anything and usually in the morning I know where the item is! Could be worth a try.

I have done this so often over 49 years of marriage - he's always grateful whenever he finally gets it!

Have you checked down the back/sides of the sofa cushions?

Just a bit big for pockets.
It's actually a cushion cover - folded in 4.
It is relevant to a very particular branch of the forces in which he served and has been made by Veterans and raises money for Veterans.

Damned annoying, isn't it? When this happens to me I look in all the usual places, then the silly places, sometimes that turns it up. Failing that, I start picking things up and putting things down again, whilst moving stuff about and probably swearing at the same time.
Have you tried pockets? That's where my mobile usually hides. This happens to me more these days and I threaten to book myself into a home for the bewildered.

I hope you find it Coolgran I am still at a loss about some very posh baubles bought in the January sales at the xmas shop in Albert Dock along with 3 snow globes,I put them under the stairs for safe keeping (a place no one else frequented) they where neatly stored at the back but when December arrived they had disappeared never to be seen again,this was over 20 yrs ago but comes back to me every year and starts me wondering what ever happened to them.To make matters worse I have never seen anything quite so nice since so who ever has them I hope they enjoy.

Have you mistakenly put the grey envelope in the recycling? I’ve found “lost” items in the recycling a few times!

Thank you everyone. There is honestly nowhere left to look. I call recall having it in my hand as I sat on the sofa. After that it’s a blank. In my mind it was put amongst other unwrapped gifts in the guest room. I’m now hoping it hasn’t been binned with the plastic envelope thinking the envelope was just rubbish. I will definitely let you all know when/if it turns up.

Do go back and look where you have already checked. In my experience, the THIRD time you look there, it will mysteriously have appeared in that very place.

My motto is that, if it isn't where it should be, then it must be somewhere it shouldn't be. It's a logical approach, but definitely not foolproof!

Whenever I mislay anything I always envisaged the item laughing at me as it knows where it is, but I don't!!!!

Can you think back and remember what you were doing when the parcel arrived? You say it is still in the delivery envelope, so I assume it came by post or UPS.

Visualise yourself standing at the door, signing for the parcel, or taking in the post (whichever applies here). THEN what did you do?

I find this procedure helpful (sometimes) when I misplace something.

You're right, there is no point searching places you have already looked, unless you skimped one or two saying to yourself, that I can't have put it there! That is where I found a fairly large amount of money, I had put away for save keeping and which I actually found in the first place a thief would have looked: my desk drawer. Don't ask me how I could have been so stupid, as to put it there, for I just do not know!

Go round the house looking all the places you know you could not have put it in, or even better, start looking for something else - that works for me! Let us know if or rather when you find it! We are all agog, at least I am.

When dd was small I used to hide presents in bedrooms, wardrobes etc. I would inevitably find a forgotten gift around February! It became a standing joke.

I do that every year too. It's always put in a place I know I will remember and never do. I bought new prescription sun reading glasses a few months ago and when I went on holiday I couldn't find them anywhere. I'm usually very careful but I had to give up looking. I now just think they'll turn up eventually when I'm not looking for them as they are definitely in the house,unless they've fell into the bin!

In the meantime ive looked just about everywhere. I've checked every drawer, as suggested my knicker drawer is usually a good bet. Gifts are normally in the guest bedroom. He wouldn't go looking and if he did somehow happen upon it he'd probably just not let on.

As long as it's not caught up inside another gift it'll eventually turn up. I'm not going to get uptight about it..... honest ....

I like to think I always put things in 'the right place' but I lost the Christmas stamps and was about to buy a whole lot more when I found them. I have a place in my desk for stamps so was sure I must have put them there but I hadn't. Eventually I had a 'moment' and looked with all the Christmas presents and there they were. It was logical after all, just not remembered logical. Now where did I put those labels?

I lost DGD’s present still in the delivery package. DH found it yesterday in a high up cupboard. I have no memory of putting it there!
It’s a mechanical dog, ( sold out) I did threaten to get a real puppy replacement, if we could not find it! I think that spurred on the search!

I often do this with cards etc. Often in the knicker drawer! Where do you usually hide things when you don't want him to see them?
I don't have this problem as I don't buy DH a present (or he me).

I did this last year. I bought DD and SIL a gift card for their favourite pub. I searched high and low and I couldn't find it. It was £50 so I didn't tell, DH and I just went and bought another one. I found it after Christmas (I had put it inside a book for safekeeping). So I confessed to DH and we kept it and had a couple of nice pub meals.

I can't find my DH's present either, except I really can't find it, as can't find anything to buy him [help emoticon].

I couldn’t find my DiL’s present last week. I thought I had put it in a box with all the other presents, but no. Eventually found it tucked away in my scarf drawer! I don’t remember putting it in there and DH certainly wouldn’t have. Senior moments. I’m sure it will turn up eventually. Fingers crossed!

Could dh have seen the envelope and unwrapped it thinking it was mail, then didn't know how to explain it?

Oh dear. My daughter did this last week, couldn't find something she had bought for her husband and hidden in a safe place !!! She did eventually find it after much looking and a few choice words.

Oh it is, bought lovely wrapping and tags last January in the sales, paperchase, posh, now if I could find them now it would be wonderful
