Knitted squares

My Son and his partner got through quite a lot of squares when their premature twins were in St Thomas' earlier this year, and the hospital have now been asking for more to be made. They are given to parents with babies in NICU and SCBU for them to "scent" and they are then put in with the baby/s so they get to recognise the smell of Mummy and Daddy. They are literally knitted squares of about 5" x 5" or similar but they need to be washed at the hospital at 40 degrees before they are given out so washable yarn please. If anyone has any time it would be great if you could help out - they can be posted and if you pm me I'll can give the name of the Nurse who is organising things, and the address of the hospital. Thank you very much in advance for your kindness.

I posted about this a couple of weeks ago on the Arts & Crafts forum.
I have since read that the recent appeal has resulted hospital having more than enough squares now.
I wish your twin GC well smile Tommies saved the life of my GS 5 yrs ago with 2 heart ops.

Ah, ninathenana, didn't know where to post!
My DS partner only spoke to the Nurse on the unit yesterday, so not sure about this then.
I've knitted a few, I'll just crack on and do more and send them to the Nurse who mentioned it yesterday.

kitlong thanks for the info - I had started knitting and then stopped as I had also read that they were not wanting anymore - I shall start again then smile

Sounds like a lovely idea.
And it brought back a memory - when I was about 22 I had a job as a supply teacher in a school in Clapham Junction for learning disabled girls. I can't claim to have been a very good teacher, but I organised a project of knitting squares and making a blanket for children in a Dr. Barnardos home. We had a class outing to visit the home with the blanket, I think it was in Essex, a long way from CJ.

I knit squares - it's a bit mindless but relaxing in between other, more complicated projects.
Mine get sent off to make blankets for Syrian refugees in Turkey - it's extremely cold there in the winter.

I don't have to sew them together either, for which I thank the ladies over there (I dislike sewing up knitted items).

Our Knit and Natter group has been making these too. I found I could make two in an evening.

I musty be a bit slow, one in an evening.
The ones I do are 8" though, some are 4" squares
