Looking up how many calories a lady of a certain age needs I find a recommended number of calories, suggestions for foods to help - why always nuts? I hate nuts.

Below the article is a link to - article on funeral directors .

Presumably for people who didn't eat their nuts. smile

Or ones that have a nut allergy and did!

Nuts have lots of calories don't they?

Jalima1108 Mon 04-Dec-17 16:29:29

Is it the taste or the texture Anniebach?
Have you tried nut pastes - there are others besides peanut butter: almond butter, brazil nut butter etc.

I have a jar of almond butter in the cupboard - unopened because, although I like it, I don't need the calories. Opposite problem.

Nuts are rich in oil, which is one reason they are so high in calories. How about other fat rich foods you may like. ice cream, cakes, chips, crisps, toast and butter, crumpets. If you need to build your weight up, I think you can forget about nutrition, calories are all.

DGS, aged 7 and a skinny lad at the best of times recently had a severe virus infection, lost his appetite and lost 7lbs in weight. I normally never give DGC sweets, except Easter and Christmas but I rang DDiL and suggested that a food parcel of chocolate might help him and she totally agreed, so i am supplying regular chocolate to get his weight back up.

When one of my brothers had peritonitis at the age of ten I wept when I saw him in hospital because he looked like a famine child (someone had just helpfully told me that he "might have died"; it certainly looked like it). Something that helped build his weight back to normal was vast bowlfuls of Readybrek, which he loved, with golden syrup on it.

I discovered about this time last year that raw nuts rip my guts out. Cooked nuts seem to present no problems. Make yourself some cakes or biscuits with ground nuts in them, perhaps, annie ?

Looking at the emojis reminded me about doughnuts too. They'll stick to your ribs, as my great uncle Charlie used to say ???

Just finished half a dozen plump hot chestnuts - and they are part of my high fat low carb diet. Unlike Annie I need to lose some weight and yet I'm eating full fat everything and in the fortnight since I (re) started this diet I've already lost half a stone. The Wonderful Man has seen how well it works for me, but still scratches his head at how it works and finds it hard to believe the evidence of his own eyes.
