Snow

Just cleared about 14" of snow off the wheelie bins in order to open them; similar depth on top of the car.

The presence of the sun and clear skies today make it all more beautiful. Our view of the Shropshire hills and the Black Mountains is wonderful!

Phone call from DS (in the snowless SE ). "I read in the paper you've got a lot of snow, are you OK?"

Just joking, it didn't happen.

I'm another who lived in the SE in the winter of 62/63 when the snow laid for weeks and came over the top of our wellies. My younger sister and I both did a paper round (one house on the outskirts of town up a long drive) and came home to change before walking to school (about 3 miles), NOTE SCHOOLS DID NOT CLOSE Took the dog out when we got home, I also had a Saturday job in a little corner shop - when I got there, the first thing they asked me to do was to take their dog out!

I love it to look at but am scared to go out in it in case I fall - having had one fall which nearly finished me off [though not in snow I have to say]. We've had 4 inches in our area [East of England] and it's been lovely hearing the children of all ages playing out.
I remember very heavy snow in, I think, 1964 when my grandparents who were staying with us couldn't travel home because the roads were blocked. We had water delivered by a lorry which managed to get through!
We also had snow 7 years ago and DH pulled a GS round the garden in a tyre when GS came home from hospital. It did him [GS] the world of good I have to say.

Fixed my Yaktrax to my walking boots and trekked to dig out DD's car from where she had to abandon it yesterday when taking GD to her Sunday job. DD was still in bed reading as she has a day off due to school closure! To be fair she didn't ask me to do it, but I quite like snow clearing . Melting at the moment but -10 degrees forecast for tonight.

Town at a standstill, highways has asked all residents stay home, no groceries again today and no milk. Shops closed.

Fed up now and hate tea without milk.

Deep snow here. Don’t know whether to be touched by DD’s concern when she rang to see if we were ‘ok’ or miffed that she thinks we’re getting to that age.

I did note DS didn’t bother! That must mean he thinks we are too young to worry about .....doesn't it

DD1 was born on Remberance Day 1973 and we had a struggle to get to the hospital through snow and ice. Snowed a lot that winter.

(No snow in Norfolk and the forecast is for temperatures above freezing all week. Just a lot of rain coming.)

I remember the snow of '62/ '63. It started on Boxing Day and my Dad had to drive us back from London to Sussex in a blizzard. The pipes at my boarding school froze and term didn't start until February - great jubilation.
2nd baby was due in January '78. It snowed the week before due date and a local woman was rescued, in labour, from her car in a snowdrift and helicoptered to hospital. Luckily for me the baby was 10 days late..
In 2010 we arrived home on 30 November in a snowstorm and my car didn't move from outside the house until the middle of January.
No problem this year; I'm in Australia and it's 30+degrees

No real snow here. Just fat , wet blobs that soon disappear. Very wild and windy last night though. Not many people out as it is very cold.

This amount of snow in December not good , town cut off, some villages without electricity, no TV signal, hope the internet doesn't go down.

We had to drive through the Peak District today, it was stunning in the sun this morning. Less amusing travelling back this evening with the road blocked by a jacknifed lorry, and the side roads out of the Dale blocked as people could not drive up the steep hills covered in ice! We had to make a very long secnic detour.

No snow where I am, although damp, not too cold today I thought, quite nice in the sun, went for a long walk.

I'm feeling cheated. We have no snow in south west Northumberland. It's very cold and frosty though. The temperature did not rise above freezing all day. Our outside thermometer registered -2° at the highest.

Sun here all day today and tomorrow and rain forecast overnight on Saturday. That’s here on South Downs. Mind you I suppose I wouldn’t really like snow at Christmas as we live on a steep hill - South downs and we get stuck. Jollies at sisters on Christmas Eve, Lunch at DDs on Christmas Day and jollies at DSs on Boxing Day - we’d be really stuffed!!

On Christmas day 2010, my DSs took my three DGSs sledging - the DGDs wisely stayed indoors. I have never seen such glowing faces or such sodden clothing as I saw on their return when it was almost dark!

Our last white Xmas was in 2010. It snowed on 23rd December and we were worried that the family might not be able to make it but they all arrived safely. On 24th the grandchildren made a snowman in the garden and when we woke up on the 25th and looked out of the window there was a little robin sitting on the snowman's hat. On Boxing Day we all climbed the hill opposite our house and went sledging. I'd love another white Xmas like that.

On the Wirral we had snow then tons of rain so back to square one .

Have the good fortune not to have seen it yet in this south eastern neck of the woods. Hate driving in the snow especially when its i y. Dislike walking too for the same reason. Wrap up all.

We’re promised snow in South Wales, I hate it, I hope it doesn’t arrive, we can be virtual prisoners in our own home if it does.

I hate the ruddy stuff but it looks like we’re going to get a real dollop of it on Saturday night into Sunday and beyond. My anxiety levels will be stratospheric if they are right.

Ours lasted for about 10 minutes then went.

Snowed all day here in Shropshire. Haven't had as much for years - about 6 inches when last looked but it's dark now.

In 1979/80, or thereabouts, I set out from our mildly rural home in suburban South Berkshire to drive the 4 miles to school and work, I left at 8.30 as usual and finally got the children to school at 11.00. I drove on to work getting there at 11.30.

My job was part time and hourly paid and my manager decreed that anyone who had made the effort and got to work should fill their time sheet to say that they were in at 9.00 and he would countersign it at the end of the week as normal, which he did.

And a couple of years ago the Tesco lorry could not get through to us, so he delivered to the local pub who brought it to us in their 4x4.
