What do you want from a local pub?

What a lovely idea. I would appreciate the opportunity to play games. Anything from the usual pub ones like darts, pool,cribbage, shove halfpenny to other board or card games.

Usually if I go to a pub it's for an evening meal and even if there are dartboards etc I feel too intimidated by the 'regulars' to try playing and I am too far away from my family to get the chance to play other games more than once or twice a year.

I love a quiz! A pub near us has a book corner and a games table with Scrabble etc. What about a reading group? I'd always be up for a bit of dancing if there's room!

Ooh, I had a bit of trouble posting the OP and wasn't sure if I had posted at all or if it would be duplicated. Seems I wasn't the only one with a problem.

I've noticed two or three threads that have duplicate posts on Pittcity it happened to me too. It seems to have been a wide spread problem this afternoon.

A book club, pubs are great for these.

Some of the pubs and bars where I live put on board game sessions. It doesn't really appeal to me but I would imagine some people would enjoy that sort of thing.

I quite like quizzes and karaoke or open mic sessions - and I think the book club suggestion might be nice too. Or what about a playreading group - would that be practical?

A pub itself would be nice, nothing of that description within walking distance here

I'd like a quiz. All the pubs here that do quizzes do them after I've dropped off in the evening. I wouldn't want it to be 'old people specific' though - any hint of that and I'm off.

Yes Teetime all the pub quizes in this area start at 9 but if you don't get in the pub about an hour before, you can't get a seat. They then go on until about 11.30. Too late for us. I wouldn't like 'older people specific' either. There is a new little tiny bar/pub not far from here which is like someon'e living room with a bar in it. It's great with cosy sofas. They have shelving with packs of cards, quiz books and little boxed games that you can help yourself too whilst having a drink.

That's a great idea Pittcity a lot of older people would prefer afternoon activities rather than go out when it's dark. All the above suggestions are excellent, book club, quiz, cards I would go if I was in the UK.

Could they make a play to attract people who are lonely or on their own, especially women, who may not like the idea of going to a pub unaccompanied. Perhaps a number to ring and a friendly local who coulc collect and deliver them?

Advertise it as a 'social' session and make it clear coffee and tea is available as well as alcoholic drinks and that single people are welcome. make sure any loners get drawn into activities.

Several pubs in our village have closed down but one of the few remaining pubs has started a Knit & Natter on both an afternoon and an evening; a mum's and tots coffee morning; a book club afternoon, where tea/coffee and sandwiches are offered; an allotment group meeting in an afternoon and, just this month, a Sci Bar talk one evening a month. They've diversified!
