Physiotherapist asked to see how I sit for most of the day. In my defence I have retired. I lie on sofa, head and shoulders against cushions against sofa arm, feet on other arm. Not my fault my bum is right on the spot where the two seat cushions meet.

She looked closely then said - oh you are the same shape as a banana .

Any other banana shaped members here ?

At the moment I cannot afford to buy furniture have had a lot of expenses recently. Can't go to the charity shops.

I do think my posture has a lot to do with the reflux and am trying to sort things out

Thank you for the suggestions x

However you sit, being on a tablet/ computer too much is not doing us much good physically although at times it is a lifeline mentally, as we know.

Can you slightly angle the sofa so that you can still see out of the window if you sit with your legs on a stool?

I have an adjustable swivel/recliner chair, not one of the solid ones, the flimsier type that you can see in catalogues for £200 upwards. It is great for swinging round to contemplate the view or to swing back to watch the tv in the opposite direction.

Anniebanana, get rid of your sofa and replace it with two comfortable straight-backed armchairs and a large padded footstool, plus cushions and throws. Poor posture is responsible for so many ills and it seems as though lying on the sofa may be partly responsible for your reflux problems. (It certainly gave me neck-ache.) The charity shops are full of good quality chairs in excellent condition, or treat yourself to one of those chairs which feature in afternoon TV advertisements.

Sparkly, seems I need either a longer sofa or find a way to shrink ?

SparklyGrandma Sun 26-Nov-17 22:59:30

Anniebach I hope I am not too late to say I am half a banana, I am so short that my feet don't reach the other sofa arm. I lie with my head propped on a soft cushion moulded to support my neck.

The other way I sit on the sofa is propped up at one end with pillows and cushions supporting my back upright, and feet at a 90 degree angle on the sofa.

I hope if anyone has a bad back that they feel better.

Bloomin’ heck Annie! 1200 calories. Well done! That’s my ambition too - but in the other direction! (Well, I actually aim at 1000 but there’s these mince pies which really need eating)

Will look later - Blue Planet beckons!

MissAdventure Sun 26-Nov-17 19:55:29

This video is worth watching, as are their other ones. I watch them often: whilst I'm squashed up on my sofa, leaning left, shoulders hunched..

Can't remember, but Wayfair have some

Jalima1108 Sun 26-Nov-17 19:34:22

Hurray, Well done.

We were going to buy two swivelling armchairs with footrests for the conservatory- some of them are really expensive but I am trying to remember where we saw some that were quite reasonable.

sorry, racking my pea brain

Anniebach Sun 26-Nov-17 19:12:32

Off topic forgive me must tell

Today I hit 1,200 calories instead of usual 600 , avoid the insomniac thread tonight posters x

Ooooh, that swivel armchair could become a nest , didn't know there such a thing, I am going to get the living room sorted, difficult because rather a small room but am sure it can be done. Thank you so much Elegran .

lemongrove Sun 26-Nov-17 18:06:42

A lap tray works well for an iPad, or even an ordinary cushion.

Elegran Sun 26-Nov-17 18:01:09

Would a swivelling chair be useful? You could turn it to face the TV or the window without turning your neck sideways, and a single more upright chair would be better for your back and you even-ness than slouching sideways on the sofa. Something like this (that one is very cheap, but looks rather weary. However, if you could get a look round charity shops or look online on Gumtree and so on, you might find something better without breaking the bank)

I wish I knew what you are talking about. I have been busy all weekend and my computer is playing up.

Anniebach Sun 26-Nov-17 17:43:55

Yes Elegran, I really do, must get myself together , little wonder my balance isn't good, I must be all out of alignment

Elegran Sun 26-Nov-17 17:38:42

It sounds as though you really need some way to sit straighter.

Anniebach Sun 26-Nov-17 17:37:01

Walking into the kitchen last night, light on in living room not in kitchen my reflection was in kitchen window, my left shoulder was about two inches higher than the right, had been on iPad most of the day and evening , not good

lovebeigecardigans1955 Sun 26-Nov-17 17:12:00

I'm probably banana shaped when I sit. Always round-shouldered, I try to remember to swing my arms about after being on the computer (or sewing machine) to loosen them up a bit.
Trying to stand on one leg while cleaning my teeth makes my little ankles all wobbly.
