Rodney Bewes

Sad to hear about the death of Rodney Bewes. Loved "The Likely Lads". Really funny though I must admit to liking James Bolam most. He had the funniest lines and the sexy, dry manner.
It is a terrible shame that they weren't on speaking terms for the last forty years. I think James Bolam had the more successful career after The Likely Lads while Rodney Bewes wanted to continue making money out of TLL. Bolam felt that was in the past and wanted to focus on his new projects. I can understand that, but not to forgive someone (for revealing Bolam's wife's pregnancy) for decades?

I agree with all the previous posters. Rodney Bewes was a great character, such a shame we didn't see more of him. Loved the Likely Lads.

Being a Geordie girl, I loved The Likely Lads.

I bought my dad the box set for Christmas last year and he watched them virtually back to back.

I too enjoyed the Likely Lads. Partly because some of my family were from around Newcastle, although we rarely saw them, it was a bit of a link.
I always preferred Rodney Bewes, Bob always seemed to be trying to do the right thing, despite no one appreciating it.
I’ve had a Utube look at the 1974 Christmas special, it a great trip down memory lane!

Bless him a lovely family man who never took himself too seriously, unlike the bitter and twisted Bolam who denied Rodney a decent living by repeat fees by refusing most of the repeats of the Likely Lads to be shown, and all because Bewes revealed that Bolams' wife was expecting a baby before Bolam released the news himself. What a thoroughly decent man bewes was to still to his dying day be magnanimous about Bolam. R.I.P Rodney. Thanks for the laughs!

Rodney Bewes, I believe, went on to take a travelling show round the UK. Isn't it sad that he and James Bolam fell out and Bolam never spoke to him again? I think it was because Bewes let the date of Bolam's wedding out having been asked not to. I loved the Likely Lads and also Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads and must have seen most episodes several times. My family and I met Bewes once on a quiet beach in Cornwall. He had his young children with him and I wish we'd spoken to him but we didn't. I'm sorry now. Thanks for the laughs, Rodney. RIP.

I loved The Likely Lads too and so did my DH. Lots of hilarious lines 'I'd offer you a can but I've only got 6' RIP Rodney.
