Did you have a toy cupboard and, if so, how big was it? What was in it? Did you have any big toys?
When was about seven my toy cupboard was one cupboard in a sideboard. It wasn't very big. I had two dolls (Sharnie and Bella), a Sindy with a shoebox full of homemade clothes (all lovingly sewn or knitted by hand by an elderly neighbour), several Enid Blyton books (I was rather keen on the Magic Far Away Tree) and Beano annuals, Snakes and Ladders, dominoes and half a dozen small items e.g. top, colouring book, crayons etc. I also had a very old twin dolls pram that had been handed down through the family and wasn't new when the first little girl had it. I loved my pram even though it was battered. Finally I had a red bike. I don't think it had started off red but like the pram it had come down to me via several older children. That was it. My complete toy collection and I was lucky because even at that age I knew I had more that other children. When I was eight dad got a better paying job and that Christmas I got a swing which Dad concreted into the garden. I played and played on it until one day the ropes gave way (I assume they'd rotted) and I flew through the air for several yards before hitting a wall. After that I used it as a climbing frame regularly hanging upside down from the top with concrete directly below me
All part of life’s rich tapestry

happy days!
