How (not) to make coffee

1. Pour water in cafetière to warm.
2. Grind coffee beans.
3. Empty water out, measure coffee into cafetière.
4. Pick up cafetière and throw contents into sink.
5. Stare in horror, and start again.

Suppressing urge to scream at DH when he tells you to “focus”is optional, especially when you feel he distracted you in the first place.

Looks like it’s going to be a good day!

Several times I have poured water into my mug only to find that I haven't put a tea bag in it. Coffee is fine, I have to remember to switch the machine on and grind the coffee, so by the time I've done that it's easy to remember to put the coffee in the machine and stick a cup underneath it.

The thing I get wrong most is the breadmaker. I love it dearly, but in my more absent-minded moments I have tried (on various occasions) to make it without water, without yeast, without salt, without electricity, and even without the breadpan. I think I have always remembered the flour!

I am a coffee drinker (no tea for me). I like both percked and instant coffee but the instant has to be my preferred brand, one that is strong enough to taste but not bitter. As for going hard in the jar - what awful coffee are you buying? It must be cheap and inferior because I have not had this happen to me.
Coffee doen't last that long in my house.

Would you believe it, my Dh did exactly the same thing this morning with the coffee maker! Coffee everywhere. hmm

Luckily Unfortunately, I had to go out quite early so he had to clear it all up. grin

The only time I have coffee is when I am having a meal out. I like percolated with lots of cream and a spoonful of sugar. Alas, it is so long since I went out for a meal I have forgotten what it would taste like.

Love it SueDonim. I'm not the only person who does silly things.?

Elenkalubleton have you tried descaling it? I found the instruction information underneath it but it's pretty useless so I found one online. Mine has a filter in the water container too - there are so many different machines out there at the moment. I only drink black coffee but love the idea of the different flavours in the nespresso (can't taste them so pointless getting one). Thanks for the tips about the coffee percolator - I know he's used that type for years so if I can find one for my hob he can maybe take it home with him after Christmas if it will fit in their cases with all the other stuff - we might need to ship it all in a container grin

My first job in the morning is to make a pot of tea for one, it brews while I draw back curtains etc. Then I pour my (bone-china) mug of tea and take it back to bed. It tasted funny one morning. I'd put a scoop of ground coffee into the pot instead of tea leaves shock

When my sister-in-law had had a few drinks, they got boiled lettuce instead of cabbage.

jaymbee36 Wed 15-Nov-17 15:56:21

I don't like coffee

It is DD who constantly says to me 'Focus Mother, Focus' when I do daft things like this.

My neighbour got a bit tipsy on Christmas day. She meant to strain her sprouts but omitted to use a strainer and just threw them in the sink.

I'm so glad I've given up coffee first thing, I have weak Marmite & glass of fruit juice. Marmite in mug & place next to the kettle. Put glass next to fridge & put fruit juice in. I work on auto pilot too.

The above comments have given me a laugh grin

See if you can find a stainless steel plate for putting on your induction hob under pans etc. that otherwise can't be used on them. I bought one in Belgium, it is about 30 cm in diameter and has a handle, so it resembles a completely flat griddle for baking Scottish pancakes on.

That way you can use various things like a glass cona on an induction hob.

To make coffee in coffee maker.

1 Place filter in machine. Add ground coffee.

2 Pour water into the top container.

3 Switch on machine.

4 Do some general chores

5 Come back to have coffee, to find the equivalent of four mugs of coffee cascading across the worktop, into the drawers, down the cabinet fronts and seeping across the floor.

6 Swear. A lot. blush

7 Spot coffee jug sitting on the draining board, not in the coffee machine.

I prefer instant too, but must have the milk in before the boiling water. Just tastes so much better.

NonnaW Wed 15-Nov-17 13:19:49

Phew, glad it’s not just me!we only have coffee at breakfast time so do like our ground coffee, but always keep some instant just in case. Yes, it does often go solid in the jar though.

Oldwoman70 Wed 15-Nov-17 13:18:23

Very strong instant coffee first thing in the morning to get my eyes to open.

vampirequeen Wed 15-Nov-17 12:59:47

I don't like fresh coffee. I only like instant.

maryhoffman37 Wed 15-Nov-17 12:52:49

Everything wrong with instant coffee! We don't even keep it as it goes rock hard before it is used. So simple to make real coffee even for one in a small cafetière. And those who use Tassimo or Nespresso machines, please tell us you recycle the pods. There are thousands going into landfill every day along with the Starbucks etc. single use plastic cups.

Nanny27 Wed 15-Nov-17 11:53:02

Joking aside I drink my coffee black and absolutely hate it when someone pours boiling water from the kettle directly on to instant coffe. Nothing wrong with instant coffee but not burnt.

Sheilasue Wed 15-Nov-17 11:48:51

Exactly Mymm, so darn easy.

annsixty Wed 15-Nov-17 11:27:27

Tassimo ad on my tablet now.

Myym Wed 15-Nov-17 11:01:43

1. Place cup on Tassimo base
2. Put the Coffee Pod into correct position
3. Close lid
4. Push button
5. Wait few seconds...
6. Drink
7. Repeat at regular intervals throughout the day
