Christmas Cards

I enjoy sending and receiving Christmas cards, they are not too expensive.....but the postage certainly is now.
Am wondering if I should cut down the list to only those I intend to see again or keep in constant touch with.
A bit of a dilemma as I don’t want anybody to feel hurt by the lack of a card ( or will they even notice?) grin
What do others do?

I seem to be left with cards without envelopes and lots of envelopes (over the years) that don't fit any of the spare cards!

Been out, those cards are still on the table, have shut the door to the dining room. Out tomorrow, out on Thursday, oh yipee I can ignore them. Then post them on Friday and phone up instead.

A few years ago, my husband came home from work and told me he`d bought some Christmas cards. I said I`d already got some, he said "Yes, but these have envelopes." Bless him, he thought that envelopes had to be bought separately!

Eye them back Jalima ( sternly) and if neccessary give them a talking to, you have to stand up to these bullies!tchgrin

There are just three left to finish, written but needing letters. They are eyeing me accusingly from the dining room table hmm

callgirl why does that happen? I used to find I’d end up with cards that didn’t fit the envelopes. Obviously my fault. A bit akin to the socks when one of a pair gets swallowed by the washing machine. One of life’s insoluble mysteries. This year I managed to fit cards to envelopes. Hope you can find some larger envelopes somewhere CG.

I'm only sending a few this year and I'm putting something on FB to let people know I'm not sending cards but donating to Mary's Meals instead.

I spent nearly all afternoon today writing cards, to find that the last 3 cards in the box were minus envelopes!

lemongrove Mon 04-Dec-17 23:02:55

No, I don’t think they will notice either morethan in fact I never notice if somebody doesn’t send one.
Bought two packs of cards a few days ago, then today found four packs, mainly unused in a cupboard drawer.tchblush I do this a lot! So I now have cards for the next two years as well, and when next Christmas comes around I will have forgotten again and bought more.

They probably all do it on Facebook, morethan

Hi ethelbags I was wondering where you where. My card list is getting smaller too. Sad isn’t itsad I doubt people will notice Lemon I think people send less cards nowadays because of the cost of postage. My own children don’t display cards so there’s no point in sending them. They do send me and their dad one because they know I appreciate it.

Just haven’t seen much of you E. I expect you’re busy at work. x

Forgot to say, I got my first Christmas card yesterday. Still haven`t written mine!

I blame my typos on the fact that I need new specs and should have gone ages ago; why do I keep putting it off?
That and fat finger syndrome.

Bellanonna Thu 30-Nov-17 23:09:52

Lovely to see you Ethel. I did ask about you a while back. Get those new specs and come back to us!

etheltbags1 Thu 30-Nov-17 21:13:25

Hi everybody, I'm ok, just been reading posts for a while, also my laptop has been sick with a nasty virus and typing on tablet or my phone is too difficult for my eyes, I do need new specs. Hope you are all well.

It’s not the cards that I mind writing it’s any letters or long messages, so have almost stopped that now, in favour of wishing the person a Happy Christmas from us .
If it’s somebody close to us or we see and hear from regularly they don’t need any news, and the others may not care anyway ( I don’t enjoy anyone’s round robins either.)

I stopped sending them three years ago when postage from Malta became too expensive. Instead, I send the amount I would have spent on cards and postage to a local charity.

We have a Christmas card list which we print out every year and send to those on the list. To be honest, they are mostly relations whom we haven't seen for twenty odd years and have no intention of seeing. It's just a habit now. Because we have moved, I sent out cards very early (late November) to let folks know our new address. Sadly we got a card back from the daughter of some friends who told us that both her parents have now passed away, and that her mother has had dementia for the last five years. So she wouldn't have known who we were anyway. Just so sad. Is it a complete waste of time and risking upsetting people by just sticking to a Christmas card list? I think it might be.

I still love sending and receiving Christmas cards, but I have cut down a little on those I have to post. Just a few distant people that I haven't seen for many years, for instance.
Postage is ridiculously expensive, so I hand deliver as many as I can.
I started writing my cards last night, by concidence, and it is a labour of love mostly, thinking about old friends and far away relatives.
