DBS check at my Workplace

When you fill it in you need to be very honest about your past as it looks worse if you try to cover it up. It will also depend on the type of DBS they are going for. I work in a school and have to have an enhanced DBS and this will show up absolutely anything in your past, yours may not be quite so detailed.
I would speak to your manager about this so that they are aware something may be flagged up.

Mine will be a standard DBS

I don't think drink driving will show on a standard dbs. The law changed a while back, I think.

Hopefully will be the case, worried that it does though.

Well, good luck! Fingers crossed it won't show. Besides which, some convictions are considered 'spent' after so long, I think? I'm sure it will be fine, though.

I think even if it showed, it doesn't affect your job in any way. Its horrible having something hanging over you though. Try not to worry.

Yes it is horrible, heard as well the whole process can take weeks and weeks.

Might be worth 'coming clean' with your boss before you actually fill the form in.

For my benefit I see now that DBS is the Disclosure and Barring service, which was previously just CRB.

All these subtle changes of name and function have occurred in the six years since I have been retired . My ignorance of what exactly it was now called had passed me by.

Me too Nellie. I worked in Dementia Care, and had to have an enhanced CRB, now DBS. I'm so glad that I'm retired. I had no criminal convictions, not even a parking ticket, so I was never worried about it.

When you applied for your current job, were there any questions on the application form about previous convictions? I think how long ago it was is relevant for a standard DBS- I think it would show up for 5 years after the offence - it sounds like you might be past that period now.

I wouldn't think a drink driving conviction would count, unless you now have a visible alcohol problem, or drive a lot for work. In a finance department they will be looking for anyone convicted of fraud or theft and even then, if it was 25 years ago and you have been law abiding since I would expect an employer to exercise due discretion.

If you did get sacked, which I think is highly unlikely, take them to an Industrial Tribunal for unfair dismissal.

The crucial points are when was it and were questions asked about convictions on the application form- the latter is the most important.
