Going through the bank statements I was panicking, thinking Paw’s pension seemed a lot less than it should have been, then I noticed it is paid fortnightly!

First time I have come across that

My mother gets Pension Savings Credit and it is paid quarterly. It is now so small as PSC was frozen - I think in 2010 - and stayed frozen since then.

I was informed I would be paid every four weeks, however I phoned and asked for it to be paid weekly. I have a very small monthly pensions which just about pays the utilities so I know exactly how much I have to spend on food, petrol etc. Love it.

Barmy old bat - did you have to give a reason for wanting to be paid weekly?

I'm another who likes the 4 weekly payment. I work on the basis of one 4 week payment equals one month's payment and when the extra 'month'comes in, I tuck it way for emergencies.

I love having it four weekly. Every fourth Friday. I always hated five week paydays especially the January one.

Just rang to claim but they are only taking telephone claims two months before due date.

DH has always been paid 4 weekly so we are used to it. Love the 'extra month'!

Made my claim by phone yesterday and no problem at all having it paid weekly.

Pension? Must be nice! Mine won't be paid until I'm 66 but almost all my working life I'd planned to be getting it at 60 so have had to provide myself with an income for an extra 6 years. Too big a rise in too short a time for us 50s born girls! Unfair. No doubt I'll be shouted down for this....

Nor me. I only have a small occupational pension, I would be in serious financial bother if DH didn't have his.

There is a just over 10 year age gap between DH and I and we planned that he would work until he was 70 when I would get my pension at 60. All out of the window now. Very unfair.

Those who were able to get a state pension aged 60 are very lucky indeed.

Another one here who suddenly went from years of "you will get your pension when you are 60" to "you will get your pension at 66" with very little notice, and no chance of saving more. So have had to carry on working.
Only another four years and one week to go!

At least 12 more years for me, but not sure DH will be able to work until he is 78.

gillybob Your post prompted me to Google my own State Pension age, and I now know for certain that I won't get it until I am 67. What I still don't know is exactly when they start paying it, whether it is as soon as I reach that birthday, or not.

By the time I am 67, OH will be in his 80s, so there is quite a big chance, should we both live that long, that I ( and many others in the same boat) could 'retire' into the role of carer. Yet another thing that will disproportionately affect women, given that it is much more common for the male partner to be the eldest!

It sounds like you only slightly younger than me (i was born in March 1961). I thought the rise to a pension age of 68 didn't -currently- affect anyone born before 1977? That's what it seems to say on the site where I checked my own pension date, but now I am a bit concerned that I might have got something wrong.

Is the cut-off point April of whichever year? ie those born in March 1961 will get the pension at 67, those after April 1961 will have to wait until 68?

I was born in 1962 MamaCaz . It saddens me that DH and I might not have any retirement to enjoy together.
