I would be reluctant to go anywhere in my nightmare as I don’t wear any and might just be arrested or sectioned.

Right near to where we live - about 5 mins walk - there is a filled in gravel pit, which is a popular beach resort in the summer. We have a neighbour who lives even nearer than us. He gets up early and walks down to the lake in his dressing gown and flip-flops and has an early-morning swim. He doesn't like going so much in the summer because "it is too warm"!. He is getting on for 70, by the way.

So dressing gown and PJs pretty much covers all of you. I have always been puzzled why this is so much worse than mini, mini skirts (hotpants) and low cut tops showing loadsa boobs, or crop tops showing similar plus belly. Holiday towns have to put up with bikinis and swimwear and not always the most attractive bodies!! Maybe they should issue dressing gowns (housecoats!)

I wouldn't dream of going out to be seen in my nightwear although I have to confess that I have found it very convenient recently when asked to pick up a friend in an emergency situation to go into the garage through the side door, get in the car and press the "thunderbirds are go" ( garage door automatic opener) button so that nobody else knew I was in my nightie underneath my jogging bottoms and top! I was very grateful that I didn't need to get petrol and I drove very carefully as I would not have wanted to be found like that if I had an accident!

DH has had to come home from hospital in his dressing gown when he was discharged from hospital unexpectedly early and had no outdoor clothes with him. He was pretty grumpy with me until I explained about not having second sight and offered him the bus fare to get home.

I had to pick up my husband very late one night and knowing I wouldn't have to leave car I stayed in dressing gown and slippers until I realised he had left the car with abs no petrol and I had to get out at a late night garage to get some. I'm terrible for letting car get low on petrol so I knew I would have run out so had no choice.

GS1 & 2 turned up at their cousin's birthday party last week wearing pyjamas and with bare feet. They do anly live next door though!

Back in my misspent university days in the 1960s, a group of us went into central Newcastle in our nightdresses, dressing gown and slippers during Rag Week to collect money fro charity. Two of us then got the bus back to our hall of residence. People on the bus looked at us strangely, But we were 18, and having fun and collecting for charity, so we didn't care

Some Walmart shoppers make our pj wearers seem overdressed

I saw a woman in Primark yesterday afternoon in pj's and slippers!!

Once, I was taken off to A/E in my dressing gown. When I was better, was discharged and had to come home in a taxi dressed like that. Had no money but did have my phone so daughter met me. Mortifying, but at least the pain was better.

I did, once, very early in the morning before anyone else was up, put the bin out in my dressing gown just before the bin men got here. I don't think anyone saw me but I felt very brazen. (I did brush my hair first!)

I have seen several people in my neighbourhood popping into the newsagents in their dressing gowns and slippers or jumping into their cars and heading off. I think it's very odd.

Having said that, I do go out to the dustbin or hang out the washing in my dressing gown, and no doubt some people would not approve of that either.

I really think that shopping in your pyjamas is the end of the line in acceptable behaviour.

Well I have perhaps over stated the issue but let's say I find it really slutty.

It’s an all-in-one outfit Brian with a zip down the front. I’ve just bought one for my little GD with a hood, which also has ears. Really sweet.

I call my dressing gown a house coat and then feel it is quite appropriate at any time of the day.

That's nothing compared to how some people in America go to Walmart. Next time I get a link I'll post it. They are really bizarre.

3 years ago my son spent a day at The Guardian as part of his politics A level and was invited to the morning editorial meeting . One of the sub - editors wore PJs and flip-flops

I've seen young women in my local town in clothes shops and supermarkets wearing dressing gowns and slippers.

I think it is the done thing in certain areas.

Kitty perhaps be grateful it wasn't a windy day... or maybe then you really would have 'seen it all'
