Well, I went to have a good old moan in the 'anyone awake' thread, and found it has been closed. So, here is a new one.
I'm awake, I have a headache, I'm at work, so can't go prowling around, and I know tomorrow is going to be a terrible day.

MissAdventure, propped up by many pillows in bed may be of help to you .Grandma70s gale still blowing here and throughout the night, just wondering what damage has been caused.

MissAdventure Thu 18-Jan-18 06:02:20

There is a gale blowing here, with gusts up to 70mph.

Grandma70s Thu 18-Jan-18 05:56:50

I suppose I must have slept a bit, but I feel as if I have been awake all night. There was a very noisy gale blowing for much of the night, which didn’t help.

It is comforting to know how many other people suffer from insomnia. In real life I don’t seem to know anyone who does.

Awake with my hiatus hernia giving me pain. hmm oh it does hurt, and ridiculously, I don't take the meds prescribed to help it. I would rather sit up half the night clutching my chest, apparently.

Just decamped to the spare room. DHs CPAP mask very noisy tonight

Very sorry Baubles. My mum is still hanging in there - I just don’t know how. The doctor gave her just a few hours two weeks ago and we were planning her funeral in November 2016! Her heart beats strongly but nothing else functions any longer. As you say, a very strong generation.

WilmaKnickersfit Sun 14-Jan-18 20:00:41

Baubles thank you for taking the time to tell us the news at such a sad time for you and your husband's family. I am sorry for your loss. flowers

Baubles, my condolences x. Now be kind to yourself

baubles Sun 14-Jan-18 14:59:49

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and words. MiL died this morning, her breathing had changed during the night, every so often there was a pause and then she would take another breath until the moment when the next breath didn’t come.

Another funeral to arrange. sad.

Wondering how things are baubles, my father “hung on” for 5 days, not on oxygen, but in a deep sleep.
I am eternally grateful that having sped back to Scotland despite the hospital telling me not to take any risks, assuring
me there”was no rush, he was unlikely to last the day/night” nevertheless I was able to spend the last 4 days and nights with him, and was there at the end.
However, we have no say in the timing of our end. Wishing you strength and comfort.

I just remembered that I read recently that it's quite common for someone to pass away when the family leaves the room. Some nurses think the dying person hangs on so there is no one from the family there at the final moments because it would be too distressing for the family.

I stayed 4 days and nights with my Dad before going home for a shower and he slipped away when I was coming back up in the lift. He wasn't alone though.

That's hard baubles. {{{HUGS}}}

It is amazing baubles how strong this generation is? We used to call my mum ‘the comeback kid’ she recovered so many times! But finally - she just went to sleep - peacefully and permanently? I miss her so much but would not want her back to suffer. I wish you, your m-i-l and your family a peaceful goodbye ?

Still here jogginggirl. I’ve no idea how long a person can cling on to life like this. She is being given fluids and oxygen and appears to be in a deep sleep.

How is it going baubles ❤️

48 hours later and MiL is still with us although she hasn’t been conscious since Sunday.
