Well, I went to have a good old moan in the 'anyone awake' thread, and found it has been closed. So, here is a new one.
I'm awake, I have a headache, I'm at work, so can't go prowling around, and I know tomorrow is going to be a terrible day.

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 07-Feb-18 03:22:35

Me too. Night everyone. ???????

Ginny42 Fri 09-Feb-18 03:03:40

Oh dear awake again and can't switch off. Hoping I am the only one awake and worrying. Wish I had an off switch.

Anniebach Fri 09-Feb-18 04:58:25

Sorry your awake in night again Ginny, I am every night, I stopped the nightly tea and rennies posts ? Hope you are sleeping now x

Sunami2 Sat 10-Feb-18 04:36:34

Just joined gransnet 3am ish.... Have a feeling that sleep may evade me for the rest of this night ... It's now 4.27 and I've been checking out the various forums...
Choosing insomniac's anon seemed most appropriate for a first post to say hello to other wakeful ladies.
Going to see if I can go to sleep now ... Hope you all can too.. Nite nite ?x

Theres quite a lot of evidence to show that screens on phones tablets and even the TV have a detrimental effect on sleep. Google screens and sleep for more info.

Ginny42 Mon 12-Feb-18 02:13:09

I knew that POPS but when the thoughts just won't stop free-wheeling round my brain I just have to get up and do something. No use lying there, as the thoughts just don't stop I'm afraid.

Anniebach Mon 12-Feb-18 02:29:43

Sorry your still having broken sleep Ginny

MawBroon Mon 12-Feb-18 05:40:58

Ye gods I have coughed my way through the night seeing all the hours and most of the halves and quarters too. ???

Billybob4491 Mon 12-Feb-18 05:53:54

Instead of sleeping I spent most of last night worrying about my Tesco online food shopping due to be delivered at 7.00am, usually end up ordering too much of one thing and not enough of another. Took us ages to work our way through 12 yoghurts (all the same flavour)! and 3 ton of grapes!

Ginny42 Mon 12-Feb-18 06:27:53

I slept fitfully, although I didn't try to sleep until after 03.00. Waking up and hoping we all have a better day. x

Well, I’m normally a good sleeper, but have the odd night like this where I wake at daft o’clock and just can’t get back off. In bed at 11.30, reading till I dropped off at 12.15, then wide awake at 4. I’ve tried counting techniques, breathing techniques, staring into the dark, even getting up and having a hot shower. Useless, all of it, though I smell delightful thanks to my opium (!) soap. And every little niggle and worry runs constantly through your brain, doesn’t it? I feel so sorry for those of you with genuine worries and sadness. And any others who are regulars on here. I’ve put my blip down to getting no fresh air and exercise yesterday. It shouldn’t be an issue tonight as I’m hiking over to look after DS3 at 8. I guess I might as well get up now.

If you can't drop off in lass than 1/2 an hour then get up as you say you do, make a drink probably not tea of coffee, read a book etc (not a screen).

may be worth looking at some relaxation techniques or meditation with practice you can relax your self from all those thoughts in about 10 or 15 minutes.

I still have the odd bad night where I get back up and go back between 5 and 8 in the morning and sleep til early afternoon.

Associate bed with sleep, ie if not dropping off get up and go to a different room, if you lay there all night not sleeping then you can loose that association. A bit like the early stages of being a parent and trying to establish the routine for babies to go to sleep.

how about giving your self some worry time before bed, at least a few hours before you go, all the stuff that stops you dropping off, let go of the stuff you cant do anything about as you cant do anything about it anyway. and the other stuff ( the stuff which you can sort out) make plan of a day and time to do it, after your worry time take a while to relax before bed. hopefully you can dismiss those thoughts as they come into your head, dont try and stop them allow them in and dismiss them straight away...

its not easy but with practice it's achievable.

I think the "worry time" is a good idea and when I write my worries down, I realise a lot of them are trivial no sense! It's true that it does seem strange not worrying though.... I might miss something important by not worrying.

Ginny42 Mon 12-Feb-18 15:38:07

Thank you for your concern and good advice POPS. However, some worries are not the kind you can just lay aside. You can't do anything about them, but when grieving or being worried about illness or family relationships then those thoughts only dissipate over time and when we find solutions. I'm fighting sleep atm as I could just nod off at 16.40 local time and I do so want to sleep tonight as thankfully the tense family relationships here have improved somewhat today.

Anniebach Mon 12-Feb-18 15:43:45

wot, you worry you may forget something to worry about ? You are lovely ?

wot Mon 12-Feb-18 15:54:09

?? thank you! My partner used to say you're not happy if you've got nothing to worry about! It doesn't make me happy but feels natural worst luck!!

Maggiemaybe Mon 12-Feb-18 18:40:45

Well I caught up on my sleep this afternoon - I nodded off as soon as I got home at 2.15 and didn’t wake up till Pointless! blush I yomped 10,000 steps in the snow in between times though, so fingers crossed I’ll sleep tonight. Thanks for the tips, P0PS, which are good for the likes of me with have no apparent reasons for being awake.

P0PS Mon 12-Feb-18 19:31:49

just beware you dont end up worrying about the worrying or the not worrying.. thats a bit of a vicious circle.

Tea and rennies yet again, I am so tired of this night after night , thoughts in the middle of the night are too difficult to control, I fear going to bed

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 14-Feb-18 05:09:10

Hi Annie flowers.

Haven't been on GN since last Thursday morning, so probably got quite a bit of catching up to do. Visiting my Mum in Scotland, so not had usual sleep problems because I'm so bad at pacing myself I've been flopping into bed exhausted every night. Cough still causing disturbed nights though, but at least I could get back to sleep - until now that is. Got a long train journey home in the morning and I suspect I'm worried about it. Unfortunately I had another seizure thingy at the dining table the first night I was here. My brother and Step-Dad held me until I came back from it. All rather awkward because I hadn't told them anything and was planning on picking my moment to explain what happened to me the other week. So we ended up having a serious conversation which spoiled the happy mood. Seeing the doctor on Friday and DH will take me before he goes into work. We've decided it's best if I don't drive until I speak to the doctor.

Hey ho, it is what it is, so that's what's been going on with me. Hope everyone can get some sleep soon.

Maggiemaybe Wed 14-Feb-18 08:31:40

So sorry to hear you’re still not well, Wilma. I hope things go well at the doctor’s and that they get you sorted out.

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 14-Feb-18 11:18:05

Thank you maggie. I've had a lovely time with my Mum and Step-Dad, so I'm on the train home now and hopefully it'll be an uneventful journey.

Just saw llamas in a field! grin

Am here wide awake even after taking a sleeping pill. Was out with friends for a meal and the conversations have going round and round in my head while trying to sleep. Decided to get up and come on grans net. Hope the others who have various problems sleeping are having none tonight and are peacefully in the " land of nod"

jordana Thu 15-Feb-18 00:28:25

Just remembered a had a coffee after meal so no doubt caffeine is keeping me awake. Now for a "wee" alcoholic drink
