Well, I went to have a good old moan in the 'anyone awake' thread, and found it has been closed. So, here is a new one.
I'm awake, I have a headache, I'm at work, so can't go prowling around, and I know tomorrow is going to be a terrible day.

Crafting Tue 02-Jan-18 03:57:37

We have a reclining chair which is quite comfy and I often sit in that and manage to doze off. I agree with sitting up in bed though, can't usually fall asleep like that unless I am propped up with umpteen pillows. Just wondered if you have tried rolling up a towel and wrapping it round your neck. I know you have a sore throat not a neck problem but I find that it sometimes helps me sleep when I'm sitting up as it supports my neck and stops my head jerking when I nod off for a minute.

Morning...shame about your throat keeping you awake.....hope it improves soon......awoke at 2.45 and now wide awake, so annoying.....thinking of things to worry about ?. So, made a cuppa and sitting up with iPad.....iPads are a marvellous invention lol...

MissAdventure Tue 02-Jan-18 04:57:24

Awake. My bed feels all uncomfortable. sad

WilmaKnickersfit Tue 02-Jan-18 05:08:54

Actually Crafting I also have a neck problem, so a neck roll is handy.

Hi to Shirley and MissA.

Just taken some nightnurse (DH's favourite) and that's quietened the throat wheeze a bit, so this is a chance to drop off.

Hope you all get some zzzzzzzz in the end.

Crafting Tue 02-Jan-18 06:11:36

Just typed a reply and it's disappeared confused

Hope the night nurse works wilma

I agree shirleyw iPads are wonderful but a good night's sleep would be better grin

When I feel all fidgety I try sleeping on top of the duvet with a light blanket. Makes it easier to move around. Hope you sleep missadventure

Pleased that I am the first to post tonight - I hope you are all fast asleep!

Cranberry68 Wed 03-Jan-18 04:22:48

Does anyone out there suffer (as I do!) from misophonia?

MawBroon Wed 03-Jan-18 04:43:23

I have been sleeping much better of late, tending only to wakeful spells between 5 and 7 when, if it was summer I suppose I could get up!
But apart from the fact that it is blowing a hooley down here in Somerset, why have I now been awake since 4?
I suppose I do have a lot on my mind but it would be a total exaggeration to say I was fretting, just WIDE AWAKE sad

annsixty Wed 03-Jan-18 05:31:56

I have had about 3 hours sleep but have refrained from logging on until now.
This has been a pattern for a week or so now.
My mind will not settle and it is very wild and windy.
My problems seen unsolvable, family matters are getting me really down and are so much worse in the early hours.
Oh well not too long away now until it is time to start another day.

Marydoll Wed 03-Jan-18 07:06:23

I too resisted logging on in the hope that someone would be awake. The pain in my hands from my RA was driving me to distraction. I would have woken DH if I got up to log on, so just lay there, putting the world to rights!
Maw, I'm glad you are sleeping a bit better.
I'm sorry, Anne that things are so difficult for you just now.
Take care. flowers

It is with surprise but great pleasure that i amnounce my first night of sleep in nearly a year. Woke at 6 am, had slept all night. Was it the night nurse i wonder. Whatever it was i am profoundly grateful.

Been awake since 49, and very broken sleep before that. .Was intending to go for a blood test, but I feel so wobbly I don’t trust myself to go. It can wait, I suppose. It’s not an appointment, just something I’m supposed to do about now.

Grandma70s Thu 04-Jan-18 08:56:18

since 4, not 49.

OurKid1 Thu 04-Jan-18 08:57:28

I read an article the other day about magnesium supplements being helpful for insomnia. Been trying them for a couple of nights and so far only waking for a wee, then straight back to sleep. Might be co-incidence, but I'm hopeful ...

NfkDumpling Thu 04-Jan-18 13:50:06

Not the middle of the night now, but hopefully some of you will be having an after-lunch snooooze. Just noticed OurKid1 mentioning magnesium. A bit of thread crossing, but DiL (who has an iliostomy) has had that horrible cold and been suffering terribly from cramps, anxiety and not sleeping. Someone suggested lack of magnesium which is highly likely with her poor digestive system. Googling it the symptoms fit. Cramps, anxiety and LACK OF SLEEP!!

MissAdventure Thu 04-Jan-18 13:58:11

I have read that eating a banana before bed can really help with insomnia. I think bananas are high in magnesium, so maybe there is something in it? I don't think a banana would help my indigestion though.

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 04-Jan-18 14:19:17

My Granny used to have little magnets in her bed to stop her getting cramp. I remember them vividly.

God bless Night Nurse. I really built up my pillows last night, so I wags sitting as upright as I could. I'm not sleeping much better yet, but my symptoms are not quite as bad. Small steps. smile

wot Thu 04-Jan-18 16:24:37

There's an article in this weeks "Women's Weekly" about acid reflux!. Issue number 3

wot Thu 04-Jan-18 16:29:30

I have nearly chocked to death several times when regurgitating food whilst I was asleep. Very scary!

wot Thu 04-Jan-18 16:30:26

What I mean is, it woke me up unable to get any air in.

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 04-Jan-18 16:38:44

wot that is scary. shock

I've woken up choking too from the throat sweet I was sucking on to stop the cough (this is my usual cough, not the current one caused by the cold). I normally try to get to sleep with my head tilted slightly back to keep my airways open, but that's easier said than done.

On a lighter note, I've woken up many times with said throat sweet stuck to my PJs - of course, DH never says a word! hmm grin

Bellanonna Fri 05-Jan-18 00:21:05

OurKid1, I have read that magnesium supplements aided sleep, too. Have you found them to have a “laxative” effect though? Thought I’d ask before buying some.
Wilma I have often fallen asleep with a lozenge in my mouth during my many chest infections over the past couple of years. I haven’t choked as the sweet has usually half dissolved by then, but it’s been really uncomfortable. However, it buys a bit of sleep time, though no too good for the teeth.
