Heating on yet?

You bet!

Yes our heating is on when we need it. I even had it on in the summer a few times.

Good grief - NO! Luckily I am a very 'hot ' person & DH doesn't feel the cold much either.
I rarely start wearing trousers or tops with sleeves until November. I cannot wear anything in bed no matter how cold it is outside & we sleep under a very thin duvet in the winter- just a sheet in summer. We do save on heating I suppose but then we have electric fans on all summer.
When we have friends over in the colder months we turn heating up & I have to keep popping out to the garden to cool down.
Oddly enough I love the hot weather though although I do get VERY hot.

I live in a 1950s bungalow that was built on old moss land and so suffers from damp issues. In fact, when the little estate of bungalows was built, the builder was not allowed to build houses due to the land and all our bungalows have five foot of floor space underneath to take the flood water when the water table rises. This means that my house can feel cold and with my old boiler I had some damp patches in wardrobes and outside walls. I had a new boiler and a couple of extra radiators fitted last November and now my home is lovely and toasty and heats up really quickly. Like others I tend to leave the controls on all year and just adjust the thermostat as necessary.

The problem is though that I have a remote, wireless thermostat (not really by choice) which has a will of its own and I found then heating coming on at 4am in the middle of summer! Apparently if it loses the radio signal to the boiler control in the garage, it defaults to factory settings! Mine has a fault though and the installer is working with the manufacturer to fix it as he has to keep coming out to do a full reset!

Last year I retired and as I knew I would be at home more, moved my gas and electricity from Eon to Sainsburys and reduced my bills by half so I am not worried about the costs at the moment.

Yes. If not I would be suffering from hyperthermia. I've had it on for most of the year apart from a couple of days when we had summer. Thermostat is the way to go here north of the border

No central heating needed in our mega-insulated new granny pad. The woodburner takes care of all that and we have a small oil filled electric radiator in the bedroom should we need it but we haven't so far.

We do have a heated towel rail in the bathroom though because I love warm towels and it's handy for drying off damp socks.

I guess that when people put the heating on depends where you live, here in Manchester the summer seems to have missed us! That could be my fault as I has an electric sun awning fitted in June and I have only used it twice!

I wonder if body types also affect how we feel heat and cold. I was very thin in my 20s and remember always feeling the cold. Even now, I feel the cold much more than my sister who is very 'chubby' and is wearing sleeveless dresses whilst I'm dressed in several layers.

Mine's definitely on, can't bear to shower in a cold bathroom!! After years of living in a hot climate I find I can't cope with being cold.

Ours has been turned on with a low thermostat setting for over a month now, and we have lit the wood burning stove on the wettest days. Now I have turned up the central heating in the kitchen and my study again and am seriously considering getting out our electric blankets when I change our bed linen in a day or so.

Ours is on for three hours a day, an hour in the morning, afternoon and evening. We've even had the wood burner on a couple of times too. Our house faces east and does not get much sun, plus, we live in Northumberland!

We have solid fuel heating through a Rayburn. Heats 14 radiators, does lovely roast beef and casseroles, moderate amount of hot water and it keeps the cat warm not to mention drying the washing.
My husband was very ill in September and when he came out of hospital I was worried that he would be cold as it was so hot on the ward so I lit the Rayburn on 14th September He was quite comfortable but I kept going out into the garden to cool down.
The Rayburn will stay in now until next April but we will have to let it go out just before Christmas to clean out the back. One bucket of coke a day. My house is very old but once it has warmed up it is lovely and cosy 24/7

Heating on all year round as husband feels the cold. I wear shorts/coulottes and t shirt all year round indoors. I have the back door open all year round for fresh air plus living room window open a crack. Gas company had nine hundred pounds of mine in credit so took four hundred out to pay for some treats. Looking forward to the spring to draw some more out!!

We have a pellet stove which is significantly cheaper than central heating. It is not so much the cold, but the damp feel after a long spell of rain, so have lit the stove a few times to warm the house.

ours too is on a thermostat and we 're very glad it is as this year the weather hasn't been great with cold and wet days all through what should have been summer .Our bills should be less this year as son and his partner moved out so we're at least 4 showers a day and heating on full blast in their rooms .

If the heating in our apartment goes below 22 the heating comes on. It only comes on in the morning now when it's chillier. Goes off at 10am then comes on again at 4pm. If we are feeling cold in the day we put on a small electric radiator. So far it's only come on in the morning.

I am much the same craftycat but dislike hot weather. I have a large fan going all summer BlueBelle so no real saving on electricity.

Kitty the Hive did work from Portugal, so don't worry! It was a fault in a radiator. I've got to say, British Gas were pretty quick of the mark to come out.

Craftycat I’m a hot person too. A couple of weeks ago the girls in the hairdresser I go to were saying how cold they were the previous evening and wore pyjamas, dressing gowns and bed socks in bed. I was sat there thinking that I had slept with very little on, under a thin cotton duvet and had to open a widow in the early hours. Luckily my DH worked outside all of his working life and doesn’t feel the cold either.

Ours is controlled by thermostat which can be overridden via the Internet wherever we are. Want to be comfortable in our own home so am happy to have it click on anytime it gets cool, even in summer. Oddly my bills are less than my neighbours.

We live down south and we have one of those HIVE smart thermostats and I keep it set to 18c, so on a few mornings the heating has come on, but not on many and not at all in the evening. I don't mind being a bit chilly once I am up and dressed, but I draw the line at getting out of bed in the morning and having to get washed and dressed feeling cold!

Yes, for the last week, set it at 20 which seems to be our optimum setting.
As the day warms up the CH doesn’t come on as it reaches 20 anyway, so really only mornings and evenings.

Nope....haven't had any of it on yet. Always start with extra layers of clothing. However......the dreaded deed is just about to happen triggered by the arrival of S&P with GC later today. They seem to like it much warmer than me and I want the wee ones to be totally comfortable. It will all revert to off once they depart in a few days. I find my breathing much better in a cooler house which I discovered quite by accident.

Some of you are a hardy lot! I always feel the cold and the thermostat is set at 20F, so it comes on all year round if it falls below that. It is only set for twice a day though, morning and evening and I just advance the programme if I feel colder during the day. The bathroom radiator is electric with a timer and is always on morning and evening as I like my towels warm and dry and to have warmth when I am taking a shower or bath.
