Some years ago my mother opened the door to find several small children with their teacher who presented her with a home made harvest festival hamper. She graciously accepted it with thanks then phoned me as her DGDs both attended the said school.
On questioning my DDs, it transpired DD aged 7 had nominated them after an appeal to help the "Elderly, poor and needy of the parish".
Mum and Dad were both in their mid fifties, in excellent health and certainly not poor.

I assured her that I most certianly would like to go out and celebrate, but it made me wonder what else she expects me to start doing now I've made it (a few years) past the grand old age of 60... With a smile, of course, I rmeinded her that I'm fit as a fiddle (luckily), good with technology (I created the whatsapp group that we all talk on as a family) and that she shouldn't expect me to start walking about in a housecoat any time soon (I still want to be vaguely fashionable!).
