A stressed nation?

I had barely woken up this morning when I got out my mobile and checked...
Had my poorly son text me in the night? He is on an acute mental health ward, but allowed his phone and I am being contacted daily and spending ages 'counselling' him.
Thne I thought 'What is my bank balance ?' I am waiting for a payment to come in - the answer would be there at my fingertips ...

Came downstairs, poured coffee and DH asked me if I had heard from ... via email?

I paused and said, no wonder we are a stressed nation. I am just waking up and immediately facing mental tasks and associated concerns ... and all because of 'wonderful' technology!

I keep being sent links to join messenger so I could also read and send Facebook messages on my phone. NO, No No NO ... I want some boundaries!

But life is not very well boundaried - especially working life these days, with more and more people expected to receive and look at work emails on their phones.

Government is tracking a 'rise in anxiety' in modern times. Some of the reasons seem obvious to me. ..

On the whole I find my phone reassuring as I know what the family are up to and that they are all ok. Except when they aren't of course - as when they text just before bedtime to say a child is all and what should they do, or they are stuck in a traffic jam and might miss a flight etc! Also the national news is almost always upsetting and stressful. I feel I am switching my phone on in the morning these days to check Trump hasnt started WW3!
