Suddenly feel old

Cheltenham 1963ish- felt brilliant going to school next day showing off to a class of envious girls whose parents hadn't allowed them to go to the Stones' concert. My parents were 36 or 37 at that time -seemed so old then!

I saw the Rolling Stones in Weston Super Mare in 1964... they weren't by any means top of the Bill - that was Millie of My Boy lollipop fame !

I saw the Rolling Stones at Longleat in 1963 Before it was a wildlife place. My friend and I pretended to faint so we would get hauled over a 6 foot fence and we could see them. I always regret not running on the stage to hug Bill Wyman

Chewbacca and all other "soulies" on GN if you ever feel like getting your mojo back there's an afternoon (don't laugh!) session of the Wheel every month with oldies but goodies like us packing the dance floor. Not sure of dates but Google will oblige. KTF!

I saw the Rolling Stones twice, in 1966 and 1967 (i think!) at the Romford Odeon -- they were on one of those large rock n roll tours with loads of artists, supported by the Hollies, Ike and Tina Turner and Dave Berry amongst others whose names, er, escape me.
You could hardly hear them at all because of all the screaming. But I still clearly remember Mick Jagger dancing on the stage and in fact I wrote an essay on the event for my A level English exams. got an A* equivalent. Not so stealth boast
In my first year at university I saw Pink Floyd at one of the Balls and have no recollection of it whatsoever. Well, you know what they say about the 60s....

I saw them at the Greenford Granada in around springtime 1965. Went with my new boyfriend who became my husband in 1967. The Granada was a cinema but still had a stage and the screen rolled up and out of the way for stage use. Can remember that everyone had a seat and stayed sitting in them!

One of few regrets, I never went to a Stones concert. Tried to get tickets for the O2 but they sold out in 3 minutes and the cheapest was over £100.

Think you've tapped into the Zeitgeist with this thread esspee ..just this morning I woke up feeling 90 when normally I don't feel TOO bad. I don't know if it's a curse or a blessing to remember all the brilliant bands from our youth lol! We were so lucky to have such fantastic music. In my early teens all of the giant bands of the time - the Beatles/Stones/Small Faces/Yardbirds etc all did appearances that were getable to in the North West and later on when I was 16-17 we used to go to the twisted wheel in Manchester so i got to see the legendary Motown/Stax etc artists whose music I loved then and still do today. Can't move n groove like I once could tho sadly ?!

Saw the Stones in Cardiff on their 1964 tour.
Couldn't afford a ticket so went down to see if I could catch a glimpse of them. Walked boldly into the foyer saying my friend over there had my ticket, asked a guy carrying two hotdogs if I could carry one in for him, then legged it to the front row where I stayed until the end as nobody sat in their seats anyway. Where there's a will there's a way - still my motto

I have never liked the stones or their music.

I saw them in the 80s in my teens. They were amazing! ?

Anyone else in Hyde Park July 1969 (W11girl) I was 16. I'll never forget it.

I saw the Stones in Hyde park in 1966 or 7..can't remember exactly....you know what they say, If you can't remember you must have been there!

Talking of Marc Bolan - last week was the 40th anniversary of his death; tomorrow would have been his 70th birthday

I don't know where 40 years went.

Personally I have always drawn comfort from the fact that, no matter how old I am, the bands I loved as a teenager will always be older than me!

We've missed seeing them.... so really anxious to catch them before any of us "pop off"....
don't care they ARE past their best... so are we!!

Anyone remember Russ Conway, the pianist off the Billy Cotton Band Show? I queued for ages to get his autograph on the Side Saddle record, I still have it!

I used to go the the Free Trade Hall in Manchester almost every week, back in the 60s and early 70s and saw many of the bands and artists that are legendary now. A little while ago, a young colleague was telling me how much he liked the music of Marc Bolam "even though it's like, old stuff". When I told him that I'd seen Marc Bolam when he was in Tyrannosaurus Rex, long before they changed name to The Rex, he was ! He was clearly stunned that this old dinosaur a had ever been that young! Got me some kudos that day!

I too saw the Stones at Leyton Baths in the early sixties , I was actually on the side of the stage watching them as I knew one of the bouncers and he took me and my mate up there., and a few weeks previously I had turned up late to find a group called The Beatles playing, thought they were ok although I had never heard of them! Shame I never got autographs.

I saw the Stones at the East Ham Granada in about 1964. They were very good but I loved the showmanship of Chuck Berry who was their support act.

I think our generation are so lucky to have been able to see all the great bands. I can honestly say I have seen most of the big bands/solo artists from 1962 (I was 12) onwards that I wanted to see live. Beatles, Stones ,Bowie. MJ, Queen, Springsteen, Stax tours- I could go on & on!!
My only regret is never seeing Marc Bolan before he died. I think I have seen everyone else that I wanted to. I would like to see Kaiser Chiefs one day.

Shysal know what you mean. We travel into London quite a bit on the tube and often get offered a seat as it's usually standing room only. Very kind of course but brings it home to you.

I saw the Stones in 1964 in a hotel ballroom in my little home town none of my friends believe me (as the hotel has long gone) but I did plus Little Richard, the Searchers, Gerry and the pacemakers, Miguel 5, Freddie and the dreamers, hermans hermits I could go on and on all the best of the 60 s that were barely cooked just all starting out
What a wonderful era I still love 60 s music but I must admit they do all look a little worse for wear now I saw an old 60 s group recently at our local theatre and the saxophonist had to sit down to play ?

I was walking up a local alley way the other day when a mother with two children on reins appeared coming the other way. She made the little ones stand still so that they didn't knock me over! I then realized that I must appear old and doddery to others! I always try to walk briskly and upright, although that particular alley is steep and almost brings me to a standstill sometimes. I went home feeling decidedly ancient.
