Old goat I had Shopping with Mother! It was a Sunday School prize! My DD, aged about 3, convinced my mum that she could read, as she had learned it by heart . Happy days!

Oh what a beautiful morning lalal :-)
Its crisp and cold here today and I am recovering from our visit yesterday. As they got out of the car young Jackson ( who had been told they were going to a creek( he has a thing about fishing at the moment ) ran over to hug me and said' Nana- you live near the place we were going!!!'
I love he was naïve enough to believe that !
Anyway a good time was had by all ( see pictures) and I think our daughter is happier as she said' It really feels like home already' . result !!

Sorry you're feeling squashed Corner and what a nuisance those calls sound.
Just a regrouping day here today as the other daughter and family come for sunday lunch and the day tomorrow.
Lucky she is coming as young Jackson put his shoes away ( as good boys do) and then his dad carried him to the car to go home and forgot his shoes. All Dad's fault of course !!!
I can see this will be an ongoing thing where they leave and something gets left behind ( I think Jackson was hoping that would be him !!!)

It's arrived; old and smelly and dog eared, but who cares. I must have read it over and over again because everything in it is so familiar. Wonder if anyone else had it as a child? Now want to go to America to visit his grave [I believe the house has gone, though]. I've never forgotten the two tone shoes in one of the pictures; even bought a pair but went to a wedding in London and left them behind 
. Feeling very emotional about this smelly old book. It's been travelling around since 1957 but has now found it's way 'home'.
Tegan2 Yes indeed, LAD has found his way home. A place where he'll be cherished. I love your story and I'm thrilled that you are chuffed to bits. Sometimes it's the little things that give us the most pleasure. Long ago, I had an experience something like yours. The book was 'The Secret Garden'. That, and 'Down the Bright Stream,' are my most treasured childhood books. Enjoy!

Great that you've managed to get hold of a copy of your favourite book Tegan even though it's old and smelly! Amongst all the junk in our house I found a 1949 copy of 'The squirrel, the hare and little grey rabbit '. It's beautifully illustrated but also a bit tatty. I took it to a well-known bookshop in Alnwick to sell but they just turned their noses up at it! I think I'll have to get lessons from soop on how to sell items on eBay. I'm sure somebody would love it.
Yes Tegan The book is by Alison Uttley. The cover is particularly dabbed-up but it's very clean inside I couldn't possibly throw it away, such lovely illustrations.
She tends to be rather overshadowed by Beatrix Potter, doesn't she. Her autobiography, The Country Child is delightful. Her love of the countryside just shines out from her stories. This is just a scruffy old paperback of a 'selection of her tales'. I must dig out my Little Grey Rabbits Storybook for my little granddaughter.
Tegan So pleased you're happy with your Lad book. If it's tatty and smelly it sounds as though it's been much loved. Thanks for the photos but it doesn't look familiar to me.
Yes the book with Pen and Gwen the penguins on the cover is the one I was on about. I'm now after a copy of Ginger's Adventures, although it always made me cry, even though I knew it had a happy ending

....years ago I went to stay with a long lost member of my family who I hadn't known very well when I was growing up [she was a lot older than me]. On the table next to my bed was the very same book [along with several ornaments that we both had]. Let me guess; one of your favourite films was the original version of The Incredible Journey . Especially the bit where Bodger reappears at the end. Don't suppose you have a copy of Ned the Lonely Donkey? [disappears onto Ebay...]

DDs used to be able to recite the whole thing off by heart (like their children can with Bear Hunt)
I remember one night’s bedtime reading of Ginger’s Adventures being interrupted by DD2 absolutely bawling her eyes out”POOR LITTLE PUPPY”!!
(Of the 3 of them now she is the only dog owner.....)
I am trying not to read about all these “found”childhood gems because I am the prat who gave all their Ladybird books away to various charity shops and I am still kicking myself. They might have been collectors’ items by now and they were wonderful (seethe, seethe)
