We used to sing it in school music lessons - the class was divided into two for the chorus!

My grandkids all know ' my baby 'as gorn down the plug'ole' and 'I wished I could sprechen sie deutsch' I guess it's up to us to make sure all these songs continue.....

Teddy Bears Picnic on my aunt's wind up and on an even older, massive wind up of my grandmother's was Nymphs and Shepherds. Tack cleaning at Pony Club Camp was always Quatermaster's Stores and She'll Be Coming Round The Mountain When She Comes.

My mum and Dad had a beautiful wooden-cased wind-up gramophone and as well as listening to nursery rhyme records I loved hearing "Keep right on to the end of the road", The Laughing Policeman and Harry Lauder singing The Road to the Isles. My very own favourite had Teddy Bears Picnic one side and Dicky Bird Hop on the other. Anyone remember those?

Having recently seen Victoria & Abdul at the cinema reminded me of the song "The ranks of the Prophet were brave men and bold and quite unaccustomed to fear, But the bravest of these was called if you please Abdul Abulbul Amir" I can't remember much more of it apart from "The heroes were plenty in ......... the ranks which were led by the Shah". It has been driving me mad trying to remember more of it. ?

I didn't know a fairy went a-marketing was a song. I had it in a lovely poetry book when I was a child, and always loved it.

Our DOGS is 4 and has a strange vocabulary, most of which comes from me, I realised one day as I managed to get 'ridu'riduculous' ' hilarious' and 'for heaven's sake' all in one sentence & remembered who I'd most recently heard saying them! He loves all the old favourite songs & we have a CD for our car journeys. The Big Rock Candy Mountain is his favourite. For some reason recently, I was singing an ancient Louis Jordan number called Choo Choo Chi Boogie & he picked it up straight away. I found it on Spotify & he's now added it to his repertoire- he loves singing

I sing most of these with gd especially in car she will be coming round the mountain is one of her favourites

My mother taught me 'Nelly goes down to the water' and a rude version of We Three Kings of Orient are.

My youngest has never gone to Sunday school and as a consequence she doesn't know any hymns. I'm not a believer myself but I am sad that such a rich vein of music and words will be lost, though I know it's my own fault.

Our swing songs were Daisy Daisy, My old man man said follow the van (took me years to fathom what a cock linnet was), She was a sweet little dicky birď. These are all Edwardian music hall songs that must have been sung to my dad as a child.

Remember most of them used to sing to my children they thought I was bonkers.
