Taking things too literally - oops

Twice in the last 24 hours I have misunderstood things, having taken the words I heard too literally.
Firstly, I was told that children are no longer allowed to use toilet rolls in school, which amazed me. Obviously, I wanted to know what they are supposed to wipe themselves with in that case.
My second stupid response was when SiL mentioned an incident long ago in a supermarket when she had gone in to change a one of her children!
Not sure what is wrong with me at the moment, but at least everyone had a good laugh
