Are you like your mother?

Or your father? I want to include everyone here. Ladies, woman, men and everyone.
Are any of you like your parent? Do you look in the mirror and see them looking back?

Oh how I wish I were more like my mother! At nearly 89, she is so beautiful and has a caring and serene nature.

I would hate to be anything like my mother. She was the most selfish, nasty person in the world. She slept with anyone, neglected my dad, brother and me, was always up to her eyeballs in debt to pay for things to wear for herself, lied and stole anything of value from me after I was married, including my engagement and eternity rings. She even brought a boyfriend of hers to my wedding, and paid more attention to him than my poor dad. I was left to cook, clean and do the washing and ironing when I was 9, this was when flat irons and cold water were the order of the day, but I just had to put up with it. I was more mother than sister to my little brother. None of her family were like her. They were all good mothers and fathers. We didn't ever have sheets and pillowcases for the beds. And right up to the day she died she would always open any mail she got her hands on, regardless of who it belonged to.
Thank the Lord I'm not like her at all.

Not like my mother at all but my eldest daughter is so like me in looks and temperament. My younger daughter complains she has the worst features of both parents.?

Daisydoo2 Wed 13-Sept-17 09:52:41

Nothing like my parents thankfully.

lemongrove Wed 13-Sept-17 09:52:06

In looks, I can see both my parents in myself, and also bits of characteristics too.My Mother was a really lovely person, I was lucky there, and Dad made us laugh but had no concept of saving money at all. Both were crossword mad ( me too) and loved the theatre( me too.)Both were interested in history and gardening, which I also am.

I look like mum and have mum's mentality (respect another person's space) but I'm a lot like Dad with being impatient.

radicalnan Wed 13-Sept-17 09:46:01

I so wish I was like dad. He had every talent, brilliant jazz musician, dancer, sportsman, builder, artist, driver, sense of humour.......how did all of that pass me by?

lovebeigecardigans1955 Wed 13-Sept-17 09:39:58

I think I take after my mum. She was nice but sadly a bit of a doormat for dad's bullying. I've learned to be more assertive over the years. At times she would stand up for herself but this would cause massive rows.
I may have given my opinions too forcefully like dad but I've learned diplomacy - something he never did.
Luckily I married a nice man who takes after neither of his parents.

I look like my mother but in NO WAY to I have her characteristics - I would shoot myself!!!

Dad however was a lovely sunny person who would do anything for anyone - I try to be like him.

The biggest insult my husband and I can hurl at each other is ~"you are just like your mother" - we both adored our fathers. So sad don't you think? We both would love to be just like our fathers but unfortunately we are not. Does tend to make one believe in "Karma" confused

annodomini Tue 12-Sept-17 23:07:39

My mother worried about everything and everyone. I am the opposite. Life was so much easier when I got a job 4000 miles away. I would like to be like my father - clever, kind and generous. No, perhaps I am not quite like either of them, but I often see my granny in the mirror!

Katek Tue 12-Sept-17 22:51:23

Def not. I'm much more like my father in looks and temperament and becoming even more like him with each passing year.

Luckygirl Tue 12-Sept-17 22:20:01

I inherited so much from my Dad.......bad short sight, piles, varicose veins.........thanks Dad! grin

Imperfect27 Tue 12-Sept-17 21:41:22

Yes, lovely picture callgirl. You both have smiling eyes. smile

Sometimes we don't see the resemblances so much ourselves until others point them out to us. I think I look like women in my dad's side of the family, but am frequently told how much like my mother I am. I do have her voice.

MissAdventure Tue 12-Sept-17 21:37:32

What a lovely picture! I can see a resemblance. You both have wonderful skin! It was worth making this thread just to see such a lovely photo.

callgirl1 Tue 12-Sept-17 21:34:44

I`ve been told I look like my mother, but have never been able to see it myself. This is her and me nearly 14 years ago, 9 months before she died.

Imperfect27 Tue 12-Sept-17 21:31:32

Serkeen sad

Physically, I take after my dad's mother's side of the family: short, increasingly broad and bad eyesight! I think I have also inherited his competitive spirit when playing any game - not that I mind losing at all, but as he would put it "I play to win!" He also gave me my love of footie.

In temperament, I like to think I am generally more like my mum - quite even and easy going - I find it easy to 'see the other side' which can be a gift, but also a curse! I think I have my mum's patience too and more often than not of late, I hear her in things I say to my family.

JaneD3 Tue 12-Sept-17 21:18:47

Paddyann you made me weep. I miss my Dad so much too, even though he has been dead for 14 years. I am told I looked like my maternal grandmother - like her, I am cubic!

NanKate Tue 12-Sept-17 21:09:45

I saw my Gran looking back at me in the mirror the other day. grin

nanny2013 Tue 12-Sept-17 21:05:04

The older I get the more I feel I'm turning into my mother - which isn't such a bad thing she was awesome!

Anniebach Tue 12-Sept-17 21:02:32

Nothing like my Mum , my three sisters are

Serkeen Tue 12-Sept-17 20:58:21

She taught me not to trust anyone, never let strangers in your home, she taught me to work hard and she made me believe that if you had no money then you were nothing.

She put my face in a plate of spaghetti bolognaise once and dragged me around the room from my pony tail.

So no I hope I am not like my Mum

To be fair to her compared to how she was brought up we had it good sad

kittylester Tue 12-Sept-17 20:06:34

I see my mum in shop windows but I hope I look more like my dad. I use my mum as an example of how not to be a mother so I flipping well hope I'm not like her.

Auntieflo Tue 12-Sept-17 19:34:53

My mum follows me around, looking out of mirrors, and from shop windows, she even used to say things that I say smile

Welshwife Tue 12-Sept-17 19:32:06

The photo of me on my French Health card looks just like my mother but it is not the same when I look in the mirror. I am a real mix of both of them when it comes to traits and many of my father's habits etc have been passed on to my son and then one of my DGS - but DD is his mother. I have feet exactly the same shape as my dad - which the DC found hilarious when they first noticed!
