Birthday present!

Today is my birthday and my OH has bought me the strangest of presents that I do not know what to do with. It is a bendy contraption (think desk lamp stem) with a bracket to screw it onto something (desk/table etc.) and a gadget at the top to fix your smartphone on to.

Can anyone suggest exactly what I might do with it? - polite ideas only required! grin

I considered one once, but decided my computer desk had enough room for a base as well

It sounds like something to watch video or TV on. Happy birthday!

At least he remembered your birthday!

This year - a flexident. Yes. Two little false teeth ... to fill in a gap! It's brilliant if a little odd - I would not have been able to afford the £450 let alone enough for an implant.

I think it's really sad that you are returning a present that your OH bought for you. x

It was my birthday yesterday too! My DH told me to choose some perfume at the duty free in Calais on Wednesday . He then paid for my new specs! It's a myth that Italians are romantic!!

Well..... er.... happy birthday!

VIOLETTE Sat 09-Sept-17 12:03:17

I hope when you unwrapped it you exclaimed ' AH ...just what YOU wanted ! Lovely he remembered though I shall be 70 towards the end of September and have already bought myself a card and a present (perfume, a new coat !) ,,,he will not remember, or wish to remember ! He never fails to tell me when it would have been his late wife's birthday, and what he bought her and where they went on holiday and out for meals !.....I am seriously thinking of giving him a present on my birthday and leaving home !!! grin

Happy birthday. Haven't a clue,
ask him.

grandMattie Sat 09-Sept-17 12:40:18

how about asking your DH? If he actually purchased it for him you, then he would know how you are supposed to use it? grin

Very interesting this. Presumably you asked him what was behind his thinking whilst you were thanking him? My husband gave me quite a few 'unusual' gifts in his time but I never returned any. Just grateful he put some thought into it even with questionable (well, to me anyway) results.

Happy birthday. Very strange indeed present indeed. 4 years ago I treated myself to a new Jaguar XF. For my birthday my a couple of minths later my DH presented ne with a wooden piece with the trademark pouncing Jaguar on it with a place for the crystal whisky glass which came with it. For a start I don't drink whisky and was most underwhelmed. Even his friend said "Did you really think D would like that as a birthday present?" when he showed it to him full of pride for his clever idea. Bless him. It still sits on my desk and is handy for my coffee mug.

Regarding strange presents - my husband once bought me a unicycle for my birthday and was disappointed I wasn't thrilled.

Happy birthday to all of you who celebrated yesterday and today. It's mine today and DH has given me a debenhams voucher which I will enjoy spending at some point soon ( I'm not sure what I want yet), I'll peruse the shop and on line. ?

lesley4357 Sat 09-Sept-17 13:59:14

My oh bought me a wheelbarrow one year!

lesley4357 Sat 09-Sept-17 14:02:34

I do think some people come on this site to boast about how rich they are ?

Mapleleaf Sat 09-Sept-17 14:04:22

Yes that reminds me, my OH bought me a spade once! (As a bit of a joke). It's actually come in useful over the years - though not by me! ?

luluaugust Sat 09-Sept-17 14:21:36

Happy Birthday to you all flowers definitely get him to fix it up and explain how he thinks you could get any use out of it should be interesting!

Bluesmum Sat 09-Sept-17 14:30:18

I am with MiniMouse - or ask him what HE wanted it for lol!

Luckygirl Sat 09-Sept-17 14:39:53

Lynnebo - it is not sad - I think we know each other well enough after nearly 50 years to be honest with each other! It would be sad if we didn't!

He thought I would put it on my bedside table to save the effort of holding the smartphone in my hand. Two problems here - it did not fit the table and I am still strong enough to hold a smartphone. And I only use it for phone calls and the occasional game of solitaire.

Happy Birthday to all the other September babies.

Happy Birthday hope you had a nice day apart from the strange present, the strangest and worst present my dear husband gave me for Christmas was an iron. I hate ironing!!!

HellsBells Sat 09-Sept-17 17:48:43

My husband got me a sieve one birthday. I did indicate that I needed one. However I told him where to put it. Don't they ever get it?

Luckygirl Sat 09-Sept-17 18:39:38

A sieve! - I love that!
