Hoping everyone else is ok, as well as their family members abroad.

Presumably some don't evacuate because they don't own a car. Or they have no money. Or they are too old or sick. Right across the region it is the poorest who are suffering most. Just seen a picture of Haiti, with the shacks people live in up to their roofs in water. Wondering whether all the extremely rich people who use these islands as tax havens (with our blessing folks, because they are UK territories) will dip their hands into their pockets to rebuild.

Sister on law niece and family live in Florida they are boarded up and hunkered down from what I ve seen on fb

Why anyone holidays in hurricane season I cannot understand myself
I lived through a hurricane when I was living in HK and was terrified and I don't think it was anything as bad as these
I don't think it's anything to do with Kim Jon but global warming hopefully the other mad president will learn that global warming foes exist

At least the US has the sort of infrastructure that other places don't have when such natural disasters strike.

the looting is why so many people dont want to leave their home or businesses.
neighbor made it from west virginia a few minutes ago.still dark here.
pushing to evac west coast now .lots of little cays/keys there too.rains and wind bands hitting south fl and key west area.
calling for volunteer nurses for shelters.my moms dh will go,hes a retired trauma nurse and has always worked the "disasters".they have cleared out the southern hospitals and moved patients to safer(?) places.inland i supose.
i would really much rather have a blizzard.....

the beastie has moved far west,closer to us but away from big population areas.only problem is if she hits water she can get stronger,come back or go on to other gulf shore areas.
local news channels are opening up thier digital systems for free.if you have a battery device it should be able to pick up baynews9 or the weather channnel.no aps required>.for anyone with fam here in fl.
spent evening getting local senior care place set up.have guests coming tonight.dont really know whats going on still.
its the waiting.
governor and law enforcement did a good job of getting fuel ships in and offloaded to stations.be the last of it for a few days.
there are already wonderful stories of people doing good things.man in diy store was buying last generator and other older man was so upset first man gave him his.friend in washington dc area.found a car full of young kids.stuck on road,took family in and put in his rental apartment for the duration. its all these "little"things that will get us thru.
then just to make sure theres enough stress going on my crazy ndn had a fire at 9pm.was going to the senior center and walked out to find a firetruck and ambulence in my front yard(they always park there?)these people are one drama after another....
well off to do some minor prep work.
as of now eye track is centered on west coast ,will know more about 6 hours from now.
anyone else out here be safe and we will make it.

In other words if you are rich you can get yourself and your family out of danger, if you're poor well, it's tough.

I can't believe (well I can) how greedy the airlines are. Talk about making money from misery.

I am reading about people who approached loan sharks as airlines added noughts to fares. Those who can't afford to get out of Florida have to stay put. There is no fuel left and the traffic is horrendous.

Thank you maddy629 I did a bit of reading on the subject last night (especially about fault lines and explosions in the sea) and still feel that North Koreas actions could have something to do with the intensity of the current situation. I am not saying that it caused it but just wonder whether it may have made a very bad weather pattern even worse.

Gillybob I agree with you but my husband said it was an underground test, what Anya says is true but I still wonder if the madman in charge in Korea has something to do with it.

Granjan and Anniebach, I`m so glad your loved ones are safely home, and hope that everyone with someone in the danger zones have good news very soon.

So many here troubled and fearful for friends and family in the hurricane hit areas. I am so deeply sorry x

Just watching it on the news, feel so sorry for those poor folk who have lost everything and now there is another on its way! Seems to be a new disaster every week recently!

I've got friends in the Houston area who have been flooded out by Harvey and friends in Tampa FL who are predicted to be right in the path of Irma. Plus friends in Oregon and Washington where there are immense wildfires burning out of control - feeling scared and rather helpless sitting here across the pond.

Is it me, but why would people holiday in hurricane season. I have holidayed in St Martins and in and around the Carribean on a number of occasions, and know not to go in the hurricane season!! He will get home safely.

Yes well if the tests had been in the open, like the ones the UK was involved in, in the Pacific then I could understand the thought that there might be a connection to weather.
My DH was amused yesterday when chatting to a chap walking his dog. Chap was complaining that nobody was trying to "do something about the hurricane". When asked what kind of thing, he suggested "dropping a nuclear bomb on it". Husband commented that it might well have an interesting effect but then people would have nuclear fallout to deal with instead. Hmm....

I just spoke to him and he is pretty chipper , just waiting for the next one. I shall be watching the news like a hawk

Gillybob you do realise the USA has carried out more than 1800 nuclear tests as opposed to NK's 6 indeed the UK has carried out many times the number NK has ..never ANY condemnation of the USA or us is there ?

Naturel climate change ?after all these issues have been going on since time began or are we humans, who once lived in caves, playing our part in the destruction of this planet.
