I'm going to burst if I don't tell someone!

Brilliant news! A lady in my reading group recently had her first baby at 40+ after they'd given up hope of it ever happening. The pregnancy and birth all went well and they have a beautiful, perfect little girl!
Fingers crossed this is how it will be for your DIL.

Icyalittle - just wanted to add my congratulations; I can well imagine how excited and thrilled you must be! I'm sure all will go well and we will all be checking back to read about your new grandchild before we know it.

Glad you posted your excitement! Great news. One of my DDs had her son at 42. Perfect little specimen, and no problems. It will be lovely when you can "come out" about this good news.

#1 daughter had her second child at 42, when the first was 9, and #2 daughter had her first at 41, after a miscarriage the year before, and her sister had one too before the second child. Second daughter's was born at home in a birthday pool with 3 midwives there, 2 to assist and one to take photos, of which there are more detailed ones that I wanted to see!

Both late birthed offspring seem fine, if hard work for an ageing granny. I was thought old for it when I had daughters at 28 and 30! Now with the gap I'm in my early 70s and love looking after grandchildren, having wanted them for so long.

Does your DD know yet? She too will be more than delighted as there is always a slight cloud over your own happiness in your children when you know that your sibling is trying but failing to achieve the same blessing.

Oh wow, such lovely stories and thank you all for your positive thoughts. I feel as if I have had a whole GN baby shower already! StKilda definitely no need to give up hope, hang in there and who knows? So many successful older mothers mentioned on here. I have never pried or asked, because I didn't know if it had become choice or chance with them. Granny23 my DD doesn't know yet, but she and her husband are going there for the weekend in 2 weeks time, so that will be when they get to know. (Yes, I'm babysitting!) You are so right, it has been difficult for her, knowing that her older brother and his wife were struggling.

Wonderful , wonderful news. My daughter was 39 and had quite given up . She went to the doctors with a tummy upset , her 'tummy upset ' is 6 years old now and is the delight of our lives .

Well done your DS and DiL, Icyalittle.. a close friend of mine had her first child at 42, her second at 44....both children now healthy teenagers.

Congratulations. Hope it all goes well for all of you. My mum was 39 when my sister was born and 41 when my brother arrived. She said she got a lot more care than she had with me, years earlier, but everything went well.

So pleased for you - can totally understand your bursting pride and joy. My daughter-in-law also expecting at 42 - albeit it's a second baby. Always a worry but one has to trust in the experts. Pleased for you too.

Congratulations ! I'm sure all will be well and she will have special attention . My sister had two at 41 and 42 with one ovary ! My DD had her second at 41+ It was an easy pregnancy and a bouncing boy of nearly 9 lbs arrived in a great hurry !

Our 41 year old daughter just had her first baby, our first grandchild and we are over the moon. Mother and daughter doing well!

Thrilled for you, I'm the child of 41 year old who then had another at43 and this all almost 60 years ago ? It will be a piece of cake and they will remain forever young too, keeping up with the trends.

Congratulations. My husband was born a healthy baby in 1918 when his mother was 42 long before all the care we get these days, so your daughter in law will be fine.
