Words you don't like, please, ladies?

I loathe the word "telly". It is a television or tv. Mind you I went to grammar school and everything had to be perfect, in those days.

'Alot' is pre programmed into my phone's predictive text, which surprised me.

The other day on a 'buy/sell' site I saw a man had made an offer on some goods and was enquiring when he could 'uplift' them. What's wrong with pick them up? Also this new saying of 'year on year' instead of year after year.

Snog. It takes all the romance out of kissing.

And cup cakes and muffins. Cup cakes are buns for goodness sake, and these enormous over-iced things with too much raising agents bear no resemblance to proper muffins!

(And I like coming out mauve - I can spot where I last left a conversation.)

"Gifting" instead of "giving". What will the next stage be; giftizing?

I can't stand the word "hubby" - silly I know.

NfkDumpling I do like the word "Mauve", but often wonder why the word "Puce" dropped out of common usage; was it because we stopped using puce pencils?

Havemercy how do you feel about the phrase " the hubster"? I see it being used more and more on forums.

In French "Puce" means "flea". With French as my first language, I used to be very puzzled as a child....

Hate ' passed away or on or over' for 'died' people who say harASSED when they mean HARassed. Spag Bol.

Partner for a lover or boy/girlfriend, wish there was a nicer expression to mean the same thing. I've been with someone for 18 years, not married but hate 'partner' which I associate with businesses.
'guys' when I'm out with my 'partner' and a young waiter/ress addresses us both.

Oh dear, a couple of people have mentioned gobsmacked. I use it quite a lot. Note to self...

I do quite like the resurrection of Oh my gosh. And Oh my days makes me smile as well. And anything with -ster added, though that will probably start to grate if it goes on too long.

Pubes. DD2 and I both had babies born face up. With me they called it back to back, with her it was face to pubes. Yuck.

furbabies is a definite dislike of mine. Adults who refer to their parents as mummy and daddy. I agree "fell pregnant" is silly - makes me think the woman fell down, the man fell on top of her and she was suddenly pregnant!!

I quite like expressions and words that seem to annoy people. I like "cheerio!" and "rightio"

Online lists include the word "slacks" as most disliked.
Its quite unpleasant, I think.

Old fasioned rather than unpleasant I'd have said.

I dislike the word 'chortle' as it sounds fat and reminds me of Billy Bunter!

I don't like the word/expression 'shite' as in 'it's a load of shite'. Horrible!

Both words I hate have already been mentioned by others, panties, and fart. Both make me shudder.

I know my late husband either referred to me by my Christian name or 'my wife'. I loved and appreciated him for this.

The one beginning with f that some people seem to think is compulsory to use in every sentence.

And it drives me mad when women "fall pregnant" Makes no sense.

I also don't like the expression 'belly ache' which my husband uses a lot! I'm not sure why but it always makes me cringe!

I don't like the way that young people use perfectly normal words in a totally different context.

But we used to do it, narrowboatnan, didn't we, and no doubt annoyed the older generation (which was probably the point)? Hip, crash, square, fuzz, chick for starters. We did pretty well, some of them are still in use!
