Embarassing PJs moment? I blame Gransnet!

So here's the thing, we NEVER get unexpected visitors - well, nearly never! And if there is a knock at the door around nine a.m., it is always a postal delivery ...

Soooo, I MAY have been dawdling over GN today and come the said knock, was in pj bottoms and an old t-shirt (and nothing else!!!) Not a problem - Parcel? How exciting! I am good at leaning around doorways, keeping most of me hidden and just doing the arm extension bit... grin

Two very nice men stood there ... two very nice men who clearly expected to be allowed in to assess a stairway repair!

In the circumstances, I think I covered my embarrassment quite well - from my 3/4 hidden position I gave my brightest smile and said 'Do excuse me, I thought you were the postman! Give me 2 minutes and I will be more presentable ..." Closed door - lightning change ...ignoring fact that hair is a disaster, washing up is still in the sink and ironing board cluttering hallway .... SIGH!

On the plus side, having gone into overdrive, I polished off the washing up, tidied and ran an errand in the 20 minutes after they departed. Still blushing now though!

So, has GN ever been responsible for you being caught in your pjs? I think this should be another forum warning! grin

So funny! I'm up at 5 but rarely manage to get dressed before 7.30-8am so have often been caught by delivery people still in my pj's. Working from home my excuse always is I've been up for hours but working and not had time to get dressed yet. We've had a lot of work done in the house over the last few months so have had to make sure I've been dressed when they arrive!

I went to the door once in my purple fluffy dressing gown assuming it was the Postie. It was the local councillor canvassing shock , quite embarrassing as it was almost lunchtime...the internet has a lot to answer for !

Why do we feel embarrassed to be caught in our night wear? Some hang over of Victorian values?!!

SussexGirl60 Thu 24-Aug-17 12:20:33

I'd get myself a long thick generous dressing gown to keep near the door-then whatever you have on (or don't ?)is completely covered up.

Yes, the pj bottoms and t-shirt were co-ordinated and not too disastrous really - it was the lack of that other bit of necessary scaffolding that did for me! grin

I had a worse situation than PJs. I was only wearing a dressing gown. It was late morning and I was listening to an audiobook on a speaker upstairs. I was in and out of different rooms, so I had it on quite loud. The book was a 'modern detective' story. The female protagonist had only be detecting up to the point that I answered my front door for a delivery. At that point, the boyfriend arrived and they were tearing each others clothes off, he had her nipple in his mouth, she dropped to her knees and . . . . well, you see where this is going! It was very explicit. The delivery woman's face pailed as she took in the scene (me in just a dressing gown, the voices of the people upstairs). I considered saying "it's not how it seems. It's an audiobook", but given that it sounded like porn, I'm not sure that would have helped much. Then the moment was passed and
I had said nothing. She surveyed me with cold wariness whenever she made a delivery for some time after that.

Oh yes. I often think that I'll only be on the computer for, what 20 minutes and an hour later ...

My son is a police officer. He says that is not at all unusual for people to answer the door naked----

! am a bit of a slob in the mornings, wander around in my nightie but I have a smartish zip-up dressing gown, quick on, looks like a house coat, I've had it for years.
However since I had a mastectomy I look a bit lop-sided. So now I have a 'softie' which I pinned inside it. It took some time getting it placed just right. But there I am, full bosomed, ready to face the world!

Had a laugh at that Stella ? Maura that's a good idea using softie ??

I once forgot a man was coming to measurctge bedroom for a new carpet at 10 am. Id been up since 7, had my breakfast in pjs and was busy on the computer when he rang the doorbell. I dont know who was more embarrassed him or me especially as I had to invite him up to the bedroom complete with unmade bed!! I gabbed some clothes and rushed into the bathroom to get dressed as he measured up!!

pollyperkins Thu 24-Aug-17 18:38:10

Sorry meant he had to measure the bedroom! Not measurctge!

Happens all the time. Just don't ever have the ironing board out, lol.

This morning I was making a cup of tea, wearing a fairly skimpy dressing gown because I'd just had a shower, when I heard a lot of banging overhead. I was just wondering what DH was doing when I saw a ladder outside the kitchen window and realised that the men had arrived to re-felt the porch roof! Quick dash upstairs to throw some clothes on and I was able to go out start offering tea.

Very apposite, Imperfect 27's post as only last week, I answered the door to our postman (of some 25 years), expecting to take in a larger than normal letter, i.e. put my hand through the gap of the door.

Instead, he asked if I minded him coming in for a glass of water. Having known him for decades, I was quite happy and showed him through to the kitchen where my beloved husband had half emptied the rubbish bin (which is set into a cupboard).

I write 'half emptied', as the other half (all right, I exaggerate a little) was strewn over the kitchen floor.

I quickly bent down to pop the stuff on the floor into the cupboard and straightening up, realised that a) I had a very short nightie on and b) it was very loose at the front and c)the postman was standing behind me.

In mitigation, the poor man was thirsty, the nightie was thick and not at all revealing but I bet that went all around the sorting office!
