OH and I moved not long ago to our 'forever' home together, a place where we could grow old, with facilities nearby and countryside not too far off. It's a lovely house in a lovely location. We moved away from our children slightly - very slightly, only 10 miles further on from them!
However, much as I love the house and garden I have realised that's it. My dreams of living near the coast didn't happen.
My dream would be to live near the sea, I have always wanted to, and we could, now that we've both retired. However, when we were house-hunting we stayed close to family. I would miss them if they weren't nearby. Having said that, one of my children has just landed a good job in the south and they will be moving away in a few months time.
I am already feeling a bit bereft!
Dreams on hold? Who am I kidding. My dream has been cancelled.
Family won out over life by the sea, but there is nothing to say all our children could move far away in time.
We went for familiarity, habit and the love of family, and it was a conscious choice, but I feel now that we have compromised. This is it. We shan't go through the upheaval of moving again. I'll never live by the sea.
Have you ever followed your dreams? Did you go for it, or did you settle for something less?
