I don't think the politics thread is for an elite group harrigran - although some may think they are.
It is more like an itch which is very annoying but you have to go back and keep scratching even if you know it could make it worse.

You may not want 'friends' per se, but certainly there are ways to influence people or help them on the path to righteousness.

Oh just shut up - this thread is bloody ridiculous and childish - and I count myself in this. We are just using it as an other excuse to have a go at each other. Well you know what they say about the road to hell.... at least I don't think I'm perfect unlike some of you lot on here who really think all you are entitled to do is moan and complain about a group of us from your lofty heights of utter perfection. I'd respect you more if you had the slightest bit of self awareness but you just think you can carry on criticising some of us over and over again with snide nasty comments . You moan about bullying but you are past masters at the art.

Well..... I came to GN because I came across from MN because I was finding some of the posts and subjects there too combative and I just wanted to chat really. I very much enjoy the games threads and the general chat topics and I've developed a very nice friendship with a couple of fellow GNetters through those forums. I read the News & Politics threads but don't join in very much for the same reasons given by other people on here. There are some lovely, kind and thoughtful people on GN and there are some people that I'd cross the road to avoid in real life! But that's the case in every walk of life isn't it?

rigby, that's 3 times today that you've told other posters to "shut up", did you get out of bed on the wrong side this morning?

Then there must be a lot of errant royal blood around for so many different posters to come up with the same comments about the unpleasant ambience of the political threads.

This was started as a thread on what most draws posters to the site. It seems to have revealed what annoys most about the site, too, and provoked a demonstration of the rattiness that makes some threads unpopular.

I love a good parry back and forth on politics , but only at home and face to face , definitely not on here

I enjoy the forums with lots of discussions on many parts of modern life and, despite some disagreements, a lot of support for people going through difficult times.

Jalima last weekend we took my 2 grandsons to the Derbyshire tram museum (brill day out )
we were able to take them on several tram rides
On one tram my four year old DGS asked me what the notice above said.
I told him that Spitting on the Tram was not allowed.
I just received a very bemused look

Can relate to reading anything and everything.
But I'm now unable to the read the shampoo bottles anymore

I passed my 11+ and started at the local grammar school in 1959. French and Latin were compulsory in their curriculum at the time and immediately my mother would ask me to read the (HP) sauce bottle Not just read it in a first-year accent but to translate it ... Obviously I couldn't so was castigated as to why she was having to spend so much on my uniform when I couldn't even read a sauce bottle

Cherrytree59 Years ago I tried to start a GN campaign for really large print on Shampoo, Conditioner and Shower Gel bottles. After all shortsighted people take their glasses off in the shower and are then confronted with matching sets of bottles with unreadable labels. I solved the problem by always buying orangy shampoo, white conditioner, green shower gel - then someone gave me a matched set of Dove and I'm back to square one, using the wrong liguid in the wrong order.

Does anyone remember the comedian ( Monty something?) who did a brilliant reading of the sauce bottle, making the French words for the ingredients sound seductive and well,....saucy!

After swimming I have ( several times) shampoo'd my hair with conditioner and wondered why it wasn't lathering.

I used to post sometimes but I was put off by the rudeness and harshness of some posters and not just on the political threads. Now I come occasionally and browse, some of the threads are interesting and informative but it can be quite cliquey, the same people talking to each other. I noticed a thread the other day where a new person hesitantly posted and was completely ignored so that she came back and apologised for posting (!) and it was still some time before one, just one, poster noticed and said something kind!! I think a lot of people don't dare to post and that's a shame.

Occasionally the Q&As are interesting and the articles too. Back to the cupboard now :-).

I don't have many people to talk to apart from DH, bless him, and it gives me an outlet and a different view of life. I have been lucky enough to meet a few Gransnetters and I hope I get to meet a few more. I have learned to stay away from the political threads, and am amazed (though I shouldn't be by now) that even a thread as seemingly benign as this one can engender so much acrimony.

Oh azie I hate it when people feel like that, but I can quite understand how you feel. If you are not used to such robust debate and you want to chat try the kitchen, it really is almost certainly the sort of place you would be happy in. I may be wrong but people are polite and civilised without fail on there.
