Rigby......you are amazingly solicitous towards djen ( not that anything bad has been said about her) oh if only you would be so caring about other posters ( those that sometimes don't agree with you.)

To add to the OP.....I have met so many lovely people at the meetings, and this slice of reality just adds to the appeal of Gransnet.?

Rigby are you djen's minder? Just wondering.
I know djen has had a tough time and so have many others but they may not share their sorrows on an open forum.

Sometimes going through bad times may make people more sympathetic to others, sometimes it may make them feel that others should toughen up.

I liked your post seacliff - but I admit to entering the competitions, usually when I see that someone has won something and it reminds me!!

I come to enjoy light hearted chat in places like the kitchen , it gives me a small insight into other people's lives and helps me remember there's always someone with more to bear so I'm grateful for what I have.

I also come to get another point of view on something I'm interested in.

I never play the 'games' and I generally avoid the political threads .

Oh yes.... I come for the virtual cake !

I like all the different points of view but I've noticed recently that some posts can be quite harsh. Even someone that just wants to pass the time of day can be shot down by someone that says there are more important things going on, as there are but sometimes it's nice just to chat like you would to a neighbour over a garden fence.

What draws me to Gransnet is to discuss politics with like-minded people.

Yes, but is it not stimulating to discuss politics with people who have a different viewpoint?

I don't post very often but I enjoy reading the general chat forums, style advice. I would have liked to have joined in more on the News and Politics threads but they make unbearable reading because of the nastiness and personal insults thrown around. I do feel that some posters try to drive off anyone who doesn't agree with them and it's only the very brave who stay and continue to post. The main culprits are those who have already been named and shamed on this thread but they know that already!

Ah but Jalima for that to happen, I'd want informed different viewpoints - hardly ever happens

I want to be able to interact with others and enjoy a good exchange of ideas and general chat .. there's too many days that I have to spend on my own because of being disabled .. and I love to have a good moan! (-:

Initially I joined to have a wider circle of people to talk to but in the six years I have been here I think of some as friends and some even like extended family.
I love the humerous anecdotes and often laugh out loud, I have also felt incredibly sad and cried with others.
The good morning thread lets me know who is up and about and if I don't see a regular I wonder if they are alright.
I am sad that JBF remains locked out whilst we have a couple of quite nasty posters who get away with much worse.
I am assuming this is a fact finding mission to see which threads are popular, I think you can be sure that the politics one is popular but only with an elite group.
