Forgetfulness

Not me, but sis-in-law drove down the M1from us and round the M25 to the Dartford crossing to find she had left her handbag (and obviously purse?) here. Before the days of online payment etc so she just had to turn round. Fortunately she had enough petrol in the car to get back. I was very worried about how knackered she would be but she refused a bed for the night as she had to be at work as a GP the next day.

DH and I both managed to forget our 3rd wedding anniversary. We only realised when we heard the date on the TV.

I've done the car seat thing lots. Luckily only for the more local ones.

I've posted before that DH used to forget he had one set of car keys in his pocket and take the other set to drive to work. I eventually stopped it by getting a taxi driver to go to collect them and ask him for the money!

Those car seats, the bane of my life. Could never manage to get them in and/or out of the car, all too complicated so have forgotten and left them in situ more than once. And dont get me onto pushchairs.....
So who is doing the 120 round trip to retrieve? You might get another overnight invite!?

My Mum 69 years ago, visited her mother in law, who asked her "where's Peter", he was in his pram outside a shop a bus ride away! He was still there when she got back!

I ve cycled to town been busy buying maybe chatting then I walked home and not till I went to use my cycle the next day and found it wasn't there did I realise I d locked it up and forgotten it
We also went camping once and had left the tent poles at home had to go shopping before we could put the tent up ?

Maw how did SiL manage to turn round at Dartford tunnel ? A little tip, I keep a purse with £10 approx in change in the car for parking and emergencies such as this.

We've turned round at the Dartford Tunnel - can't remember why. You just have to look beseeching at the nice man just before the entrance an hope he spots DH's grey hair!

In spite of the fact we do a check on belongings when GC come and visit you can bet your bottom dollar that something will get left behind. Fortunately both families live within a 13 mile radius and are also willing to wait until their next visit - usually weekly.

However it's me who has the problem. I go upstairs - a bit of an effort at the moment - and then forget what I went up for!! I come up with a bright idea, go to find pen and paper or phone - and forget what I wanted to remember. If I don't write something down straightaway or retrace my steps immediately my wonderful ideas disappear. Just think I could have become a millionaire if I could have retrieved that vital thought

ninathenana the tunnel is for northbound traffic and she was going South back to Kent so would have been going over the QE2 bridge. There is a service station just before you start to sort out which lane you need to aim for, she looked across to the passenger seat where her bag would have been, not there, pulled into services to see if she had put it in the boot etc and by dint of back roads got back onto the M25.

Maybe the best forgetful was a past headmaster who went to a conference in Birmingham, rang his wife from MK station when he came back to come and pick him up from the train
"But YOU took the car, Malcolm" was her reply.

Reminds me of a Philosophy professor that I knew.He was waiting for a bus with his wife.A student stopped and offered him a lift.He got in and they drove off.He had completely forgotten that he had been with his wife.

I went to lunch once with my DD and DGD. DD parked up in the pub car park which was at the front of the pub on a busy street. We had our lunch and stayed for about an hour and a half. When we came out, DD's car keys were on the roof of the car

Common theme here around the Dartford tunnel it seems - the drive back today for me was from Essex to Kent. thankfully SIL and DD can do without the car seat until I visit in 2 weeks time - phew!

When I was a new first-time-mum, I left my daughter in a covered shop entrance as I went inside. Walked back out, past said pram and got halfway up the highstreet, 2 streets away, before I realised and ran all the way back to find DD still sleeping ...like a baby ...

Not sure forgetting you were with your wife is as forgivable LOL

Kateykrunch and Imperfect, I did the forgotten baby thing back in 1969, took my eldest son (4th baby) out in the pram for the first time, went to the shop just round the corner, had been home half an hour or so when I remembered him, rushed back, the lady at the shop said "I`ve kept an eye on him, wondered how long it`d be before you remembered!"

Back in the day Mr C once forgot I had gone into town with him and arrived home without me. He still didn't remember then, thought I was at work (!), was reminded with a somewhat tetchy phone call. It was the last time he kept the car keys for a while .

My poor mum left me outside Woolworths on her first trip out with me in my pram and got all the way home then remembered where I was she raced back to find me still sleeping and safe & sound.
