To own up or not?

DD3 booked her kitten in with the vet because she was doing strange coloured wees on the kitchen floor. Turns out it was a butternut squash that had rotted in the bottom of a cupboard and was dripping onto the floor.

Her problem is - what to tell the vet when she cancels the appointment?

And, I'd like to point out, she didn't get her housekeeping skills from me.

I think the truth always works, it's nothing to be ashamed of.

Definitely cancel and say why. Some vets charge if you simply don't turn up. They will have a laugh.
I once had to cancel as I couldn't get puss to co-operate - he wouldn't get in his travel basket no matter how much I tried. How pathetic is that?
I shut him in a room with the basket already fully opened and take him by surprise now.
Glad kitty is all right.

Hi, yes - tell them and cancel apt asap. They'll love the story. ?

By all means cancel the appointment but tell the Vets the reason. It will make their day

Reminds me of the time years ago that I called in the Gas Board because I thought I could smell gas in the kitchen. They came very promptly and spent ages trying to find a leak with no avail. After they'd left I realised it was the cat litter that smelt!!!!

I agree, own up . Made me smile and I'm sure the vets would find it amusingsmile

maddy629 Thu 06-Jul-17 10:31:11

Tell them the truth, I'm sure they will find it amusing.I'm sure they will have heard other things like that.

barbaralynne Thu 06-Jul-17 10:30:38

Oh yes definitely own up - the staff will love that and it will get repeated around the practice! Don't say it was avocado though as I have a feeling that that is poisonous to some animals - dogs shouldn't have it.

Blimey, how long was the butternut squash THERE for? They last for months and months, lol

Lewlew Thu 06-Jul-17 10:09:34

I find that funny, too. We used to grow them in our US garden and one got so big that it wasn't practical to eat, so my mother used it for the kitchen back door stop. It never rotted, must have 'petrified' inside or something! grin

Musicelf Thu 06-Jul-17 10:03:09

Ha ha!! I would definitely own up to the vet; I agree, I'm sure they'll have a good laugh. As for housekeeping skills, that reminds me - I must check my fridge........

IngeJones Thu 06-Jul-17 10:02:46

I'd just tell the truth - would brighten the receptionist's day with a chuckle.

wildswan16 Thu 06-Jul-17 10:02:30

Definitely tell them the truth - we all need a giggle or two at work and it will make their day. They will have heard much sillier stories about pets before.

Kim19 Thu 06-Jul-17 10:01:30

Does one have to give a reason for cancelling an appointment? Mind you I'm gratified by the reasoning! Reminds me I'm not alone!

Imperfect27 Thu 06-Jul-17 08:44:08

Butternut squash sounded posh enough to me. I would own up - it is funny and there won't be a cancellation fee ... just a lot of smiles. Didn't even cross my mind to be judgemental about housekeeping skills - could so easily have been me LOL

merlotgran Wed 05-Jul-17 22:59:46

What! The kitten? grin

MawBroon Wed 05-Jul-17 22:54:48

Take it back to Waitrose and claim a refund?

Cherrytree59 Wed 05-Jul-17 22:24:44

Take some of the butternut squash gunk in and ask for it to be analysed .

Then own up! grin

merlotgran Wed 05-Jul-17 22:08:07

Our vet would love it. grin

cornergran Wed 05-Jul-17 21:44:28

grin kitty. I'd tell them, I'm sure the staff will laugh.

kittylester Wed 05-Jul-17 21:36:36

Apparently there was when she opened the cupboard. I'm still giggling about it!

harrigran Wed 05-Jul-17 21:35:20

Cancel appointment and say DC confessed to having spilt jar of paint water on kitchen floor grin

merlotgran Wed 05-Jul-17 21:28:28

Was there not a funny smell as well? grin

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 05-Jul-17 21:12:44

They probably won't ask for a reason, but I'd tell them what happened to brighten up the day. The staff will have a good giggle! grin
