Magazines for your summer holiday?

I don't buy magazines - I do find them boring and a waste of mmoney, but I subscribe (or rather my husband does on my behalf) to Who Do You Think You Are....to feed my need for genealogy stuff!

I'm an avid book reader, rather than a magazine one.

I've signed up to Readily-online magazine subscription. £7.99 a month for 100's of magazines and can be shared with family or friends (on up to 5 devices), brilliant and can be cancelled at any time.

I used to enjoy magazines but haven't bought one for 15 or 20 years. I have no interest in the celebrity gossip and find very little else of interest.

I have a subscription to BBC good food bought for me for mothers day that's good and if you like cooking and it's short flight perhaps sainsbury's magazine they sometimes have a good crossword in it but a long flight I would go with book. I find magazines these days are full of fake news anyway.

I haven't bought a magazine except for the occasional Good Housekeeping in years. I'm a kindle, tablet and puzzle book fan. Our library has an online library section so I can borrow books to read on my phone or iPad for free.

I was interested to see how many people read a magazine in the doctors surgery. Our surgery has cleared all magazines away in the name of Infection Control.
The dentist has swanky decorating magazines - I like those!

i used to read womans weekly and peoples friend - my mother used to pass them on to me so i didn't actually buy them.
i went through a phase of buying she but then got fed up with it.
after a very long period of not buying magazines i then bought cross stitch and gardening magazines until they got too expensive.
in the end i found that i could live without buying magazines and no longer do so.
if going to the doctor or dentist then i usually check through my mobile and read more interesting things in my email - like gransnet!

I used to laugh at my DD. She would buy loads of glossy magazines at the airport and then sit and tear out all the adverts she could before boarding - result much trimmed down ( and lighter) magazines to read!

I used to buy subscriptions to gardening magazines with "free" seeds with my Tesco vouchers. I now use Readly. It has an extensive range of magazines including interactive puzzle magazines and most of the magazines available at my local Smiths.

Yours and Saga are the only ones which I find interesting.
I'm not into celebrity stuff. Now and again a gardening magazine is nice, but they are all so expensive.

Only ever buy gardening or house magazines, and only when I've got a money off coupon.
Can't bear the so called celebrity mags which I've had a look at in waiting rooms. Who are these people? Reality and soap performers, can't bring myself to say stars!

No, I definitely do NOT buy 'People's Friend' or 'Yours' but then I never have done!

Coming back across the Channel last week, a 2-hour crossing from Dunkerque to Dover, in the first-class lounge I read the papers provided and then went back to my Kindle. On the way out I listened to a recorded book on my iPod.

A friend bought me a year's subscription to Woman and Home when I was 60. I rather enjoyed having it pop through the letter box each month, especially as it wasn't costing me anything. I decided to carry on with it after the year was up but I may cancel it now. It's OK but there are too many articles about smug women with perfect lives.

I have a years free subscription to GH which I used to read many years ago. I don't know if I will bother to renew it - although it does get passed on to DD after I have scanned any interesting recipes. We have had Private Eye for years which we all read. Much prefer a book or Kindle for holidays though.

I only look at magazines at the hairdresser but do enjoy Private Eye.
However, please keep buying People's Friend. Lots of lovely stories in it (some of them by me!)

I subscribe to the Oldie Magazine. I love it a mix of really great articles, black humour and competitions etc. My sister thinks I'm halarious buying a publication with that name!

I get Prima "free" with my Lloyds account but am greeting a bit bored with it and haven't used the dressmaking patterns for ages. Today I looked for a mag to take on holiday but ended up with Sainsburys magazine as it had a free box of Ricola sweets which made it a bargain!

Wouldn't ever buy one! Expensive (the "quality" ones) and full of advertising.

An ex work colleague would often buy one at Paddington Station as we were heading home after a meeting.

I was amazed at how little there was to read in them!

I read W&H. GH. and Landscape..BUT buy from the charity shop..20p each ?. wouldnt dream of paying around £4?

Last time read a magazine was in the Doctor's waiting room.
It was about Narrow boating and the waterways.
And very interesting it was too

For holidays I get Book from the charity shop and swap as many hotels have a book corner or I read my kindle.

A neighbour has subscriptions to Yours and Peoples Friend. Her daughter has 3 weekly magazines delivered, which are then passed to her mother. They are all then shared with another neighbour before coming to me, then into the recycling! A lot of the articles in the weekly magazines are the same - just published in different issues. I'm sure the content 50 years ago was a lot more interesting (and affordable) than it is today

I used to read Woman & Home mag occasionally when I was working f/t..it was a bit of light relief but tbh there is nothing in mags that I am particularly interested in! I look through some dross at the doctor's/ dentist waiting room..it is all total rubbish..either dramarama stories of two-timing celebs/ everyday folk or else it is how to look slimmer/more beautiful/younger etc all wrapped up in adverts! I have occasionally bought a garden mag for inspiration if I am thinking of doing something to the garden

I have subscriptions to Good Housekeeping, Woman and Home, Prima, and Woman's Weekly so am a bit addicted. My dear friend bought me a subscription to Vogue last Christmas which I didn't think I'd like at all but in the midst of the outrageous clothes there are some very interesting articles. Unfortunately she died suddenly in January and every time it arrives I think of her and am sad. For an extra treat sometimes I buy a House Beautiful/ Homes and Gardens etc. I love a magazine. I usually pass them on to a friend.
