View from a room

Greyduster, we call it the river, but it`s actually a canal, it goes by the glorious name of the Maud Foster Waterway. We`re at the end of it, just past us is the sluice gate, and it enters the River Haven, leading to The Wash.

I will have to do some weeding before I venture out with a camera.

I'm very impressed by all the lovely gardens on here.

We used to be able to see the river by standing on tiptoe in the little front bedroom but then they built some houses in the way.

Our garden is a work in progress. When we came nearly six years ago there were no flowering plants in it at all, just a few shrubs. I can't live without flowers.

Shame the sun isn't shining and yesterday's weather wrought havoc on the border.

I live in an urban area on a housing estate. I have a nice garden but no view as am surrounded by houses. It reminds me of an old music hall number about a really pretty garden if it wasn't for the houses in between. Possibly Marie Lloyd.

Oldgoat our neighbour has a huge conifer just inside his garden which he refuses to cut down. It's not a hedge, just an individual tree so not subject to any local laws. I was hoping (yet again) that it would blow down yesterday in the strong winds - his way of course! But no, still intact. We lose the sun from about 4 pm because of it.

NotTooOld Sadly that's not a hosta but a very vigorous yellow daisy-like plant.

Hopefully this can be resolved amicably. The first owners of next door who planted the trees are now departed and the present owner has been in about a year. The massive apple tree had hardly any flower on it this spring so maybe she will decide to chop it down (fingers crossed).

This piece on garden law might come in handy oldgoat. It's a pity that neighbours can be so thoughtless. I hope you can resolve the tree problem amicably. Fortunately, we have neighbours who don't garden. DH does it for them.

kittyester - how do you mean you have to make do with sea views 3/4 days at a time? A sea view must be lovely but why only for three or four days?

oldgoat - your hosta (is it a hosta?) looks healthy anyway.

Sadly, this is the view from our kitchen window looking south. The neighbour's mountain ash, apple tree, pear tree and beastly cypressus are planted right next to our fence and are beginning to cut out all the light in our narrow garden. Despite several hints regarding cutting them back / down nothing is done to control them.
Sorry to moan on this otherwise lovely thread.

It is a pond with a small island where the tree is. If you watch any of these house hunting programmes they often remark on countryside views but I think even a small pond near to the house makes a big difference.

I'd love a view of water too. We have to make do with sea views for 3/4 days at a time.

I really appreciate having a view of water. Whether you can see the sea, a river, lake or garden pond, it is so lovely to see the light reflected on the surface.

Varian, that's stunning! We have the river 100mtrs away but it's on the other side of the fence!!

Lucky you, Hilda, I'd love a summerhouse but we dont have the room as this is the rest of our garden.

This weather has felled a tree iacross a road in our village.
