Dogs welcome

I have a dog and I would go for a meal with my dog but only outside in pub garden I feel we must have consideration for other people and don't think inside a restaurant is an appropriate place to take an animal. A cafe where they have outside space also yes. Also it does depend on how well trained your pet is and definitely a no to sitting on the chairs

Recently went to a lovely pub for lunch but it was ruined by two dogs who smelt which put us off our food.

I'm with you Paddyann dogs don't eat at tables and therefore shouldn't be there. I find it very unhygenic. What if the dog shakes - bits of unseen & very fine hair (& possibly water droplets) everywhere....
BBbevan also raised another good point about hand washing after touching animals.
I'm also on edge when dogs are where I want to eat and don't go back to these places either.

Dogs should not be left in a car because of heatstroke and theft potential or if the owner is suddenly taken poorly.
I think it's wonderful if dogs are allowed in cafes and restaurants and this encourages me to visit. Maybe have a non-dog area as an option?

I do not dislike dogs. Last year!!!!!

I Gordon's disliked. Sleeveless year we went to a restaurant in N Wales. There was a couple in there having a meal with their very well behaved dog. Every time the waitress passed them she stroked the dog. When she brought us our meal I asked if she had washed her hands. From the look on her face she had not. Our meals were taken away and replaced.

I'm frightened of dogs pheonix I'm that person who crosses the road to avoid a dog thats not on alead or even change the direction I'm going in.When I saw the FB post about dogs being allowed in the restaurant I made my mind up it wasn't for me .I just wondered if I was the odd one out and everyone else thinks dogs in eating places are a god idea

But would you be, to use your own words "surrounded" by dogs?

I would be very surprised if on any given occasion there were more than 2 or 3 dogs on the premises.

Perhaps you could have a look in from time to time to see.

Generally I do not dislike dogs and had a dog as a child. However I have some very dog loving friends who do expect everyone to be as enthusiastic as they are about them! Though a dog can bring comfort and affection to a family and be sorely missed when they die a dog is not a human.
I think pubs are fine places to take a dog plus cafes on walking routes/parks etc. But tbh when I go out for a meal I do not appreciate dog odours wafting over from the next table. Trouble is dog owners are so acclimatised to the smell of their animal they don't notice it!

Totally agree Menopaws, I have three dogs and would not dream of taking them into a restaurant and as for using the crockery etc - yuk. My dogs have their own dishes etc and never eat from our plates.

I am a dog lover but would never inflict my pets however good on others, same as small children, there is a place for both. If you want to eat out as a couple you should not have to put up with other people's pets. Dogs should be trained to stay at home or stay in a car, they slobber, beg, smell and have no idea why they are there. Unfair on all.

This isn't a pub or cafe though ,they said in their original blurb in the press it was as close to fine dining as the area has ever seen and the menu does look good BUT I have made my choice I really dont want to be surrounded by dogs while I'm eating.I have had a dog a long time ago and I was fine with her but I've always had a fear of them since I was attacked as a child .

No I didn't report it there was only a couple of young people on duty and everyone in there seemed perfectly happy and who am I to know what dog lovers accept or don't accept I m not a clean freak or anything like that, but it made me feel a bit icky to see it happening while I was trying to eat my bacon butty I just decided I wouldn't ever go back

I agree, both - I hope you pointed it out to the manager BlueBelle as that sounds like a violation of H&S

That sounds rather gruesome Bluebell. I'm a dog lover but I do know not everyone is. As for dogs using human crockery, definite no ?

No paddyann you are not odd I like dogs but we have a dog friendly cafe which I gave the benefit of the doubt, there's was a big bulldog sitting on one chair drinking out of the owners cup there was another largish dog eating titbits of the owners plate This is by the sea so dogs, through no fault of their own, smell if they ve been wet Some dogs slobber around good I do NOT want to eat or drink of plates and cups that dogs have eaten off even after they are washed up so I won't be going in again It was a tiny area too and there were about five dogs in when I was there I will leave it to the dog lovers thanks
There is nothing wrong with your own dog and food but I don't want other peoples around me when I m wanting to enjoy a meal

Your choice paddynan, there are so many restaurants and pubs that don't allow dogs, you won't be spoiled for choice. I've always had dogs I could take anywhere, until my youngest spaniel x joined the family. He mixes well with dogs he knows but doesn't behave nicely if indoors and a big dog wanders in. So, he doesn't come to the pub with us. The huge older dog loves going out, she lies happily under the table, loves anyone who wants to stroke her - I suspect she led younger dog astray so she gets to go to quiz night and he doesn't.

So I am odd then,I would have tried it as the menu looks interesting but I dont really want to be surrounded by dogs ..you are right its my choice and I've made it .

A local coffee shop is happy to allow dogs in, and I have never witnessed a fight, on the contrary, all the dogs have been very good as per ww. It is a great bonus for me as I love dogs but can't have one of my own (at work all day). I imagine it's like children who run riot if their parents take no notice of them - dog owners seem to take a lot more resposibility for their charges!

I've noticed a more relaxed attitude to dogs in some restaurants. Was in one in Bath only the other day. It seems to almost self regulate itself....the sort of people who use such places seem the sort that take care and only bring in 'suitable' pooches. No dramas so far!

I suppose it is your choice whether you eat there or not. Like choosing an Indian, Chinese or Italian .
Most pubs allow dogs, albeit not necessarily in the restaurant part.
I expect the dogs are perfectly well behaved- unlike some owners.
