Is it rude to ask what happened to Jings? I have spells of not using Gransnet , and must have missed something.

merlotgran Thu 01-Jun-17 16:56:08

Naff off, Rigby

aggie Thu 01-Jun-17 17:03:17

My eyebrows are just descending from where some of Jingles remarks sent them , funny sometimes but a bit ouchy at others

Ana Thu 01-Jun-17 17:07:22

Goodness, there are some sensitive souls about on here...

Jalima1108 Thu 01-Jun-17 17:47:08

Grow up - there's plenty of nastiness and in particular snidiness all over GN - if you don't like, you know what to do

QED

(LOL)

trisher Thu 01-Jun-17 20:56:54

Jalima1108 when I had a post deleted I did try to find out why and what the standards were. As far as I could understand it depends entirely on who is working at the time, how confident they are about saying 'no', (mostly they seem to err on the cautious side) and which way the wind is blowing!!!

Penstemmon Thu 01-Jun-17 21:52:23

I do not know/ recall the exact post, or series of posts, that ended up with a lifetime ban but I think a decision to ban a GNner completely would not have been taken lightly. It surely must have been outright racism/ incitement to hate or something of that order ! General rudeness to one another would reduce GN to a handful!

Ana Thu 01-Jun-17 22:01:27

Ofgs jingl was never racist or incited hate. Did you not know her at all Penstemmon? hmm

TriciaF Thu 01-Jun-17 22:08:47

The last time this subject came up someone said that she was banned because she got into an argument with the GNHQ people.

Penstemmon Thu 01-Jun-17 22:11:21

No, I did not know her she was a name on a forum!! Sometimes her comments made me laugh and sometimes I blanched.
I have NOT accused her of being racist etc just surmised that it must have been that level of seriousness to be removed for life. I have no idea why she was no longer allowed to post.

Rigby46 Thu 01-Jun-17 22:18:59

Whenever this subject comes up I am truly truly astonished at how the jingles fan club think her banning was one of the greatest miscarriages of justice of all times.

merlotgran Thu 01-Jun-17 22:19:06

It would be nice to think that HQ is run by adults and if there was a hissy fit they'd get over it.

We are treated like a load of geriatrics who mustn't upset the apple cart unless you're on a political thread in which case they occasionally poke their heads around the door, tell everyone to play nicely then run like hell.

Rigby46 Thu 01-Jun-17 22:25:40

Oh dear - we are getting cross about the robust debate on the political threads aren't we? The problem as I see it is that the righties, on the whole, just can't argue their corner as well as, on the whole, the lefties can and seem to think that the ability to present your case well in an evidence based way ( you know facts, logic, knowledge ) should be seen as breaching the guideline.

merlotgran Thu 01-Jun-17 22:32:29

So why don't you bugger off back to the political threads then?

Rigby46 Thu 01-Jun-17 22:34:29

Temper temper- touched a nerve did I?

merlotgran Thu 01-Jun-17 22:38:08

Snort!

Ceesnan Fri 02-Jun-17 07:13:55

I think describing the Jingles incident as One of the greatest miscarriages of justice of all times is an exaggeration, I do think that GNHQ rather painted themselves into a corner with the way they handled things. Jings surely pushed the boundaries, but she certainly wasn't alone in thinking that those boundaries were far too restrictive for a bunch of (supposedly) mature people. There are members on this forum who seemed to have an attack of the vapours whenever she expressed an opinion, or who would automatically disagree with her. Whatever you thought of her, she made a lasting impression, and I, for one, think GN is the poorer for her absence. sad

Anya Fri 02-Jun-17 07:38:17

Indeed jingl was never racist or incited hate Pen. She was simply abrupt, irreverent, funny, refreshing and bloody rude sometimes but often hit the nail on the head exactly and made me LOL.

There's too many who clutched at their pearls and twin sets when her language was a tad forthright but I doubt those who 'tut-tutted' at her swearing were responsible for getting her banned.

Yes, GN us indeed the poorer for her leaving Ceesnan but you'll never get those who hold a grudge to agree.

Jalima1108 Sat 03-Jun-17 10:06:55

Certainly never racist or inciting hatred as far as I could tell although I wasn't on here as long as she had been.

I have no idea why a poster should be permanently banned unless they broke the rules persistently or were nasty behind the scenes to any of GNHQ staff.
Others have broken the rules on posting far more frequently so it's a puzzle.

The reason it is of interest and mentioned occasionally is because we have no idea why she was banned permanently, people do miss her acerbic style but she was also very kind.
Any number of posters could be banned if we don't know what rules were broken and we do the same.

Atqui Sat 03-Jun-17 11:03:20

I presume that only the people who continually read all the posts would have an idea as to the last straw . Those of us who dip in and out will know that occasionally her posts were sometimes verging on the step too far, but they livened things up. Having said that for any sensitive souls that were on the receiving end of the vitriol ,they may be quite grateful for the GNHQ intervention.

mrsmopp Sat 03-Jun-17 16:31:12

Could she not sign in again but using a different name?
I think she did offend a lot of people with some of her posts and other g.netters have clicked the Report button once too often, resulting in her getting thrown off.

ninathenana Sat 03-Jun-17 16:46:37

mrsmopp she did that but somehow GNHQ found out.
Hmm, I wonder how that happened hmm

No, it wasn't me. I'm a jings fan, she livened this place up.

rafichagran Sat 03-Jun-17 18:48:42

I liked Jings, yes she got a bit techy with me when I did not reply to one of her questions, and it made me think you bloody wait, I will reply when I am ready, but on other occasions she was kind and supportive of me.

There worse than her on Gransnet, and they do not have her sense of humour either.

KatyK Sat 03-Jun-17 18:58:11

I don't normally comment on threads such as this. I think it's great that we have all sorts of points of view and personalities on here. However, on occasions I thought she was rude and offensive. It never bothered me much. I would never get so offended as to report anyone to GNHQ. I would just take no notice and carry on.

Cherrytree59 Sat 03-Jun-17 19:06:28

Maybe so KatyK but she could also be very kind and supporting.

Notme Sat 03-Jun-17 22:43:14

Right. Here it is, from a source close to jingl.

She was banned because there were so many reportings of her. In the email she received from HQ informing her of their decision to ban her, they said there was no one particular incident, just the number of reportings coming in. They said they were a small team and couldn't find the time to deal with it.

She did not have any arguments or fallings out with GNHQ. In fact she still exchanges pleasantries with CariGN on Twitter, (where she tweets as 'moonlightandroses') (All followers warmly welcomed smile).

She has never been racist or incited anyone to hate. (where the flip did that come from anyway?!!!) confused
