Good luck , think I remember cleaning mine a year ago

I fantasise about getting one of those oven/cooker cleaning services in but witha range cooker with 4 ovens and 7 rings I fear it would be prohibitive. Fortunately the lights on the oven I use most have conked out so you can't see the state of the inside through the (dirty) glass in the door

Good luck! Hate this task myself-mine will probably need shot blasted before shame forces me to do it.

I'd get a price mawbroon-must look for one in my area and sod the expense!

I have just discovered something wonderful for cleaning ovens. Can't remember the name but bought it at Wilko. Everything is in the box. You put on the gloves, pour the solution into a large ziplock bag, and put shelves into the bag, leaving it to soak. Magic!

That sounds good Pat - I will look into getting this (and put in under the sink with all the other (unopened) oven cleaning stuff)

Get some Oven Pride, which works as pensionpat describes, available in all supermarkets and hardware stores . Does what it says on the box and really is just a question of leave overnight and rinse, no elbow grease required. It is almost a pleasure for me and so satisfying, and I hate cleaning! I incude my enamel baking tins in the bag with the shelves, they come out gleaming!

I get the local Ovenu service (I am sure that there are others available) to clean mine for £45 I think. Mine is a simple oven, gas hob and electric oven. It is sparkling by the time the fellow is finished. I vow never to use it again but that does not last. I personally think that it is well worth the expense because I would never do it.

My Sister swears by Oven Pride- I used it once and the stuff was semi-nuclear I think. I shall stick to Napalm - I really had better make a start on it and stop faffing around. Thank you for your sympathy.

I use Ovenu too and find them really good. My small range cooker with 5 rings, two ovens and a grill costs me £110. I have it done yearly so that is just over £2 per week. I do know someone who has it done monthly!!!!

I also put those thick non-stick sheets in the bottom of both ovens and the grill compartment and wash them when necessary.

I have a Rayburn and can't use the usual oven cleaning products. Keeping the top clean is difficult, despite wiping it every time I finish cooking and I'm afraid the inside just gets brushed out occasionally I have had it cleaned professionally in the past - cost just over £100 as I recall.

I do mine regularly because I hate it do it when it gets really bad. I moved house once and it took me a week to get a supposedly new oven clean yuk

A totally irrelevant intervention here: 'way back in the middle of the last century, my parents had a solid fuel Rayburn. One day, something terrible happened to a gingerbread I was baking and it overflowed all over the bottom of the oven. We had to let the fire go out and, when the oven cooled down, we scraped it clean, with the 'help' of our enthusiastic boxer. Dog power worked! But I was never allowed to forget that incident.

Err what happens if you never clean the oven? Just wondering

I have used Oven Pride but you need to put on a complete head to toe overall and gloves up to your shoulders first.

I have recently used Oven Pride, and it worked a treat. Only drawback, the designer (man?) of our oven arranged for the lights only to come on when the oven is in use cooking something ? so had to faff around and find a torch to light up the corners.

If you run it empty for a while at maximum temperature, most of the dirt burns off, Jane What doesn't burn off is then cemented permanently on, but there is no danger of it coming off onto the food.

I saw a post on FB not that long ago about using white vinegar, bicarbonate of soda and washing up liquid to clean the oven (it looked like new in the 'after' picture ).

Can't remember the quantities and I won't recommend it on here as I would hate for anyone's oven to explode ! but I am sure posters could find it if they search the internet.

My late father was the master of the sweeping statement. He maintained you would never get a " right good dinner" in a house with a sparkling clean cooker.

( He also said he had never met an interesting non drinker, and he would never trust a man who had more than one good suit!)

In 40 years of marriage I've never cleaned the oven!! Just never occurred to me. Same cooker for 20 years. Only got a new one 5 years ago. Looks OK to me. Must be a slut. Am I bothered?
