Good news Ruby, you must be so happy and relieved that's over.

Now you need to gradually recover from such a big operation. It's good and reassuring to have expert medical care/food/ pain relief on hand for a few days yet, as it would be scary being home alone too soon.

Agree Synonymous - plus they don't let you have those lovely strong morphine type painkillers at home.

Glad to hear that things are going so well Ruby.

Just take your time about going home, DH wanted so much to come home and pushed for it and was duly allowed to do so. He realised, too late, that it is a very different thing feeling great in hospital where help is at hand or at the end of a bell push to being at home on your own and/or without all that backup.

POO'D! Missions for today completed and uderstood. Pooing and coughing up gunk from lungs to expand them. They put me on a heart and lung machine, working them for me so my lungs went completely empty. I need to ged air back into the sacs and bring my saturations up past 96, currently 91 with no oxygen, so no going home anyway yet until this is sorted out properly. I'm not desparate to get home this time, Maggie will stay an extra few days away along with cages, just so I can get acclimatised and have plenty of sleep.

Since Aunt Ann left, and it was woderful to see her, as alway, they have taken out the multi cannula into the side of my neck. It is sore and swollen. Also the tight stretch elastic which was wrapped around my ample boobs (Grant 'n' Phil), and chest. Now got my front fastening bra on which I showed the young doctor as he hadn't seen one before and he went a slight pink colour, bless him. Three times to the toilet today on my own, being watched by nurse.On a period too! Aunt Ann came to the rescue with magazines, crisps and chocolates, lovely. I'll start doing my shopping order and then I will have instant food. Going now, get a brew. Love to all. Xxx

The hospital Staff won't forget you in a hurry!

Please do not let them send you home on a Sunday they just want your bed.
You need a home care package.
And the physio dept have a say if they believe you are fit enough with walking etc.
Stand your ground if they put pressure on to go home and your not sure, then ask to speak to the hospital social worker.
She / he will help to put your needs first.

I have been to see Ruby this afternoon. I can say she is nowhere nrarready to go home. She is still in HDU. She is half full of her usual spirit but has brain fog which is normal after an operation. I have insisted that she must have a care plan in operation before she is discharged.

Go ruby, you truly are a star. Sympathise with the log jam. Lots of water and as much fruit as you can manage along with the linseed. Should be a result. Good luck with the challenge . I can guess how much you want to get home but only when it's safe, please.

You sound so chirpy, Ruby that I can't believe it's only three days since the op. My recommendation for speeding up 'movement' is dried apricots! Or fresh ones if you can get your hands on some. Meanwhile, have a - or two.

Hospital diet is absolutely 100% guaranteed to block you up to the eyeballs. Get someone to sneak in some linseed for you and sprinkle a spoonful on your breakfast - it works like a charm! - but make sure you drink plenty as it soaks up liquid in your gut.

I know you are dying to go home, but please do not leave until you have all the care and aids etc. that you need securely in place!!!

ruby! How lovely to see you posting again and in such a bubbly mood! Home tomorrow after such a major job sounds awfully quick to me but if they do get plenty of support in place make sure you take it. Don't go telling them you can manage x y and z yourself or you'll be straight back into hospital!

I think a virtual birthday party is a brilliant idea. I'll be 19 on the 15th so can I join in too?
