I have just spoken to Rubylady she had an appointment at the MRI today and was admitted to the Acute heart ward for tests. She is on a drip and is to have an MRI scan and an angiogram.
She sounds in good spirits, it is a nice ward and patients ok.
She asks "for grapes please"
Her son has been quite shocked by the seriousness of her condition and has come home to look after the dog and the other pets.

She was having a CT scan when I rang. I am waiting to hear when her op will take place so I can plan when to visit,
hopefully Sat afternoon.

The ward cannot give any information at all.
Try contacting the hospital and asking if they could pass a message onto your friend *Rubylady" who you think is in their hospital. Tell them to say you would like to contact her if she would like this.
That approach leaves it entirely up to "Rubylady" to agree to getting contact from her, or not, as she chooses and the hospital then do not need to reply to you or give out any information about her at all.

ann Wouid the ward staff tell you which ward she has perhaps been sent to? Sometimes switchboard can help as well.

Thanks ann

A friend had his heart valve done this way. It is a lot less invasive. It was successful and his recovery seemed quite fast.

A bit scary, Ruby, but it sounds as though they are taking good care of you. Best wishes.

There is quite a bit about TAVI on the net if you want to know more, though I am sure they will answer any questions.
This is a good leaflet from Papworth Hospital. www.papworthhospital.nhs.uk/docs/leaflets/PI43_Transcatheter_Aortic_Valve.pdf Your hospital may not do it exactly the same, but it will be similar. There is a photo of a valve - it looks rather pretty, like a tiny bangle with a polythene lining. That is a 1penny piece for size comparison.

Katek Tue 09-May-17 18:08:28

All my very best wishes ruby- I'm sure all will be well and you're going to have a whole new lease of life! Thinking of you. flowers

It is wonderful what can be done now and this is so much less invasive. It sounds ideal and I hope that you can take a deep breath and dive in with so much to look forward to when you are feeling better. flowers

grannyqueenie Tue 09-May-17 17:24:39

Sounds like the medics are keen to do the op in the very best way for you but I can understand your feelings about it all. I hope it all goes smoothly and you recover well. flowers
