Yesterday we had the whole family over- 5 adults & 6 children & I cooked 2 lamb shoulders with all the trimmings, Mary Berry's sticky toffee pudding & Chrishappy's gorgeous white chocolate & mango cheesecake (see food forum). All really delicious & we took a day off from our low carb regime. There was a little(ish) bit of toffee pudding left & some sauce too.
As I was clearing up I thought- I'll just have that last bit for my breakfast tomorrow morning & then it is back to low carb diet.
This morning I dished it up & put a large helping of the sauce over it & sat down to enjoy. I really should have looked more carefully as sticky toffee pudding with lamb gravy is not the best combination of tastes!
My DH is still laughing.Actually rolling about in hysterics is nearer the truth.
Wait until he realises that the gravy was going to make the basis of the shepherd's pie(with cauliflower mash) that I had promised for dinner tonight!!
I know it served me right so come on- fess up- what have YOU done??

The gravy I was making on the hob was very thin so I decided to add a little cornflour to thicken it. Unfortunately the white powder I added from a glass storage jar was bicarbonate of soda so instead of thick gravy I ended up with very fizzy gravy!
Had a hangover once years ago when still living at home and wanted something juicy to drink. Took a bowl of what I thought was unset jelly from the counter and glugged it. It was cooking oil
Ho ho - I did exzctly the same thing Craftycat. A Lunch for the whole family to spend time with a visiting friend. I was tucking in and thinking that something tasted sweet and then the horror struck - I had poured sticky toffee sauce all over my lunch. Very very fortunately I was the only one for which I was eternally thankful and was of course the cause of much merriment. On another occasion I made some savouries containing garlic and cup cakes to take to a family gathering. Stupidly I picked up the knife I had used for chopping garlic to spread the butter cream on the cakes -garlic flavoured cupcakes not to be recommended.
My late DH and I had been given a panettone one Christmas. One day I suggested we have a piece of it with our tea and told DH there was a little sachet of icing sugar with it which he needed to sprinkle over it first. We duly ate it but thought it tasted a bit odd.
Imagine how I laughed when I went into the kitchen later on and saw the sachet of icing sugar still unopened and realised he had used a sachet of my Movicol (a type of laxative) by mistake
My friend poured lots of beetroot curry over her profiteroles at one of our dinner parties!
Oh these are making me laugh... my BIL was visiting us in America and his wife and daughter went to a carvery type place where all the courses were on one buffet line.
He dished up his dessert, chocolate brownie or similar and did something like Flowerofthewest and thought he was putting custard on it NOT. It was mayonnaise! Custard as a dessert topping is not very popular in New England. The waitresses were in hysterics... and graciously gave him a serving with whipping cream on it.

I must have done something like this myself but don't recall. However I remember two 'my big mouth moments' of others:
FIL lectured MIL about the way she cut up bacon rashers, telling her she should use a knife instead of scissors, he starting cutting with the knife and promptly cut his hand, blood everywhere so he retreated.
My younger brother was playing darts in the pub and his team were doing rather badly. He's normally pretty good so got up and said, "Here, let the expert have a go!" he threw his dart and missed the board entirely. Sheepish retreat.
I put salt instead of sugar in custard once but did realise my mistake before we ate it.
Wanting to impress my new In-Laws I invited them to Sunday lunch. Everything went well until I made the gravy which went very lumpy. In a panic I got the sieve and poured the gravy in to it. Forgetting of course to put anything under it so it went down the sink!
Deedaa LOL
My daughter made some bath bombs and left them in the kitchen.Enter her MIL who thought they were meringues and took a bite of one!
At a local carvery I chose turkey....at the 'sauces ' table I spied my favourite...bread sauce...I piled it on my plate only to discover (after I had shoved a massive spoonful into my mouth) that it was my pet hate Horseradish sauce.
I've done the classic " Only fools and horses" mistake.Made a jug of gravy put it in middle of table watched family put it all over roast beef dinner, only to realise it was coffee, I changed the canisters after that as they were matching just so it didn't happen again.
Bought a cheap fitness tracker from Groupon to replace my lost fitbit.
Bloody thing won't work as recommended accompanying App will not work with my phone.
I've been had
. Serve me right.
When we were young, my twin sister and I used to share a bed. She slept on the side next to the wall and I was on the outside. We had a strict rule that you mustn't stray onto the other person's half so when she did encroach on my side I used to pin her against the wall and give her a good pummelling with my feet. One night she had her revenge: she was feeling ill but couldn't get out of bed fast enough and was sick all over my hair.
Everton mints were my downfall. I was asked to pick some up for my dad. I figured that just 1 being taken from the bag wouldn't be missed, so I nicked it. Evidence of my thievery was only too obvious. Front, top, right side crown deeply embedded in the Everton mint. Cost me an arm and a leg at the dentist. Hate Everton Mints now.
We did that too - we are in for a bumpy few weeks!!!
brought up my kids to have their own opinions, and be prepared to discuss them and defend them..................
Last year, I made very sticky flapjacks and proceeded to devour one piece which removed a filling and a bit of tooth as well. That cost me the price of a crown - sadly not on the NHS
. I haven't eaten flapjacks since.
....ten years ago.being lazy.bought a salad crispy roll from local bakery.part way through eating it..yuk..a hard lump of something...picked up the phone to ring molly at the bakery..and then realised it was my tooth!!!!...?
Last week I took a plastic pot of chocolate dessert out of the fridge - knowing full well that I shouldn't yield to temptation. The pot slipped out of my nerveless grasp, bounced on the floor and the dessert ended up spread up the cupboard doors!

I found a couple of drumstick lollies hidden from GC. I thought I'd treat myself.
One broken tooth !
Some years ago DGC's half eaten, probably forgotten, Easter rabbit had been in the fridge for a week or two. I was tempted and I fell. Bit into the thick part at the base, straight from the fridge, was rewarded with a broken dental plate. Dentist was highly amused. All agreed that it served me right!
Once watched from afar in a college hall as a friend helped himself to profiteroles from the buffet and poured on a generous amount of - mayonnaise. Since we were too far away to warn him we waited until he brought his dish back to the table and took his first mouthful. Wish I'd had a camera phone but they hadn't been invented!
