What have Cadburys done to their chocolate, anyway? The taste is so unpleasant now, that even a dedicated chocoholic like myself can't stomach it!
Never mind what the eggs are called - it's all a bit academic if you can't eat the blighters!

Easter Eggs
(245 Posts)Just heard that Cadbury chocolate factory are dropping the Easter from Easter Eggs. Obviously so that they can sell them to other religions.
IMO this is not right. Easter is a Christian celebration, and this is a Christian country. We celebrate Lent, Easter, Whit Sunday and Christmas as we have always done.
I for one will not be buying Cadbury eggs (now made in America) anymore. This is all about Greed!
I have never seen an actual C of E or RC church 'sold off for housing' although Methodist and Baptist chapels frequently are.
I guess the test is, has anybody seen the Church of England near them being offered up for Sale?I have nearly always lived in villages and have never seen it, and in the towns and cities the churches in the South seem to be enjoying an upsurge in numbers, holding mid week services and lunch time prayer groups.
You can always look for yourself Ana and prove me wrong. Without the contrary opinion it could well be that I am right. I may give you the link at some point but I am fed up with people not doing their own research.
Christianity has been political since the First Council of Nicaea in 325. It was undertaken to get control of the different factions among the Christians who were happily believing what they believed but the powers-that-be couldn't control them as much as they wanted to so brought them all together (whether they wanted to or not) and decided what they may believe and what they may not, how they would be policed and what they must do when - none of which was in the Gospels, not even in the bits finally allowed in the New Testament.
Roses, I was not 'giving Christians a lecture' I was talking about Christianity and anyone can know about what is taught and have an opinion on it - it isn't a secret (although it seems to be to some Christians but that is true of any religion) and many who study it will not be Christian - or they may be.
You gave the figures you had found somewhere but didn't give the source. And your assurances cut no ice without evidence.
Have you decreed that I may not be serious Roses, if I feel it is serious. Nobody told me I'm afraid, I do beg your pardon. Unfortunately they didn't tell me you had taken over GN either.
The churches that are left may be packed - the ones that have been sold off for housing are certainly not and guess why they were sold off. I gave the figures for those claiming to be Christian a page or so back and I can assure you the numbers are going down by large percentages.
Religion is not political.
GGM2........I had to laugh at your post.Saying that you may report a poster for telling you to lighten up and that you are too earnest ! whatever next.
In fact GGM2 I think you have taken a very heavy tone with this whole subject, and giving Christians a lecture on the subject of Easter was never going to go down well. You were totally wrong in your assumption of empty churches at Easter too, in fact they are packed.
Is religion not political?
Well done, shoehorning politics into a thread about Easter eggs - any minute now it'll all be the fault of Brexit...
Just a polite question as I seem to have missed something but where Ana?
That's what I thought, Ilovecheese, (vegan cheese?) but I thought one criticism at a time for Yorkshiregel.
Christians only arrived in the 700s, I thought, with Cuthbert. I am sure someone will put me right.
IN OUR OWN COUNTRY is a bit over the top, considering how long there were people here before Christians.
There was a time when people were being executed for being a different type of Christian, let alone a non-Christian. That's why there were so many Christians.
Don't want to come over all earnest here, but it is a bit unsettling for others, when Christians imply that this country somehow only belongs to them.
Oh Graces Gran MK2, you really do need to lighten up a bit , being so earnest all the time must get wearing.
How would you feel if I replied referring to stupidity Nana58. Stop the personal remarks or I will report them.
Nanna58 there is no need to be rude. If you actually read what has been written no one is decrying the tradition, it is simply that the 'Christians' seem to feel they have exclusive ownership.
Nanna58, I thought pagans do worship eggs.
You're getting a bit mixed up, Yorkshiregel.
I don't think May or Sentamu have said anything about the Tesco ad. If they had noticed it, I would be very surprised!
I am sorry for those of you who didn't have chocolate eggs when small , diddums! , but why decry a harmless tradition , no one has started worshipping eggs ( well I might a Hotel Chocolat one!,
We didn't have Easter egg hunts (nor the Easter Bunny) when I was a child. Good Friday was not a day for celebration, we were given our eggs on the Sunday, and we were by no means a religious family.
Well said Ana. Good Friday, for good Christians should surely be a day of quiet contemplation and I really don't believe that all those being given these eggs are all Christians - Christians simply do not own this holiday activity.
I am pretty sure we didn't have chocolate eggs when I was a small child - sugar was still rationed. I don't think this destroyed anyone's beliefs though and surely that is what Christians should be talking about as we approach their most important festival - not chocolate eggs - or have they started worshiping those.

... Mrs May didn't think it was 'fake news' and neither did The Archbishop of York.
No they just took a cynical opportunity to get some press inches without finding out the truth of the report.
GracesGranMK2 That is exactly why people are beginning to rebel. We are a minority IN OUR OWN COUNTRY! Which is a Christian country with Christian values. If people do not want to follow our traditions they can celebrate their own.
I expect all those whose religion were actually suppressed by Christianity felt much worse Yorkshiregel; no one is suppressing Christianity, people are just not choosing to commit to it and gone are the days when we burn those with a different religion or even a different view of Christianity or are you really suggesting we force people to believe - it has never worked you know although this religion has tried it over the centuries.
Surely you are not saying that this is the country of only those who choose to be Christian; it is, in fact, (rather than some strange fiction) a democracy for all those who are subjects of the Queen and the Christians really can't blame others if their numbers are dropping. No one is asking you not to call Easter Eggs Easter Eggs or Christmas Christmas but just that you extend the same open-mindedness and acceptance to their religion - or to no religion - as you expect for Christians. It is not just your country, it is mine too and everyone else no matter what they believe.

A rose by any other name. . . .
The children - for they are the focus of so many posts on this thread - won't give a hoot if they are Easter eggs or not. They just want the fun of the hunt, and the chocolate reward at the end of it.
Although quite how the abomination that Cadbury produces nowadays can even be described as chocolate, is a mystery to me. Ghastly stuff now.
I stopped buying Cadbury's chocolates of any description when they switched to the American recipe - tastes like plastic!
