Easter Eggs

I thought that the definition of a bun was that it was made with yeast and Hot Cross Buns are made with yeast therefore a bun!!

It always amused me that people in the South West called Fairy Cakes 'Fairy Buns' - not they are not buns, they are cakes, they don't have yeast in them!

Guess what - I won a Cadbury's creme egg Easter Egg today in a raffle
and ate a tiny Lindt bunny

A cookie is a largish softish biscuit, often with pieces of chocolate or stem ginger etc in it.

Very large individual cakes are often called 'muffins' but a muffin to me is something different, made with yeast:

....and don't even get me started on baps and tea cakes!

What people now call cupcakes we always called buns. Minibags, age four, wrote 'fery keks' on a shopping list once so that kinda stuck.
Baps/rolls were barm cakes (barm being yeasty froth) except they should have a wee dimple in the top.

I love that we have so many bunny, cakey, bappy words.

I don't think lamb meat is still 'baby' by the time we eat it, nightowl. I think they've grown to almost full size by abattoir time ?

And anyway, there's nothing 'cute' about meat, whichever animal it came from. Plenty taste and nutritiousness though ? ?

I find Lindt chocolate a bit too sweet. It'll do in desperate times though.

As a child in Scotland, "cream cookies" were a sweet bun filled with double (probably artificial) cream.

I haven't ate lamb for over 11 years thatbags I remember being in Rothbury, Northumberland with my new born (just over a week old)DGD1, pushing her around in her pram and seeing all the lambs in the field. It was March. We walked through the village and seeing the sign in the local butchers "Spring lamb" I stopped. The butcher asked if he could help me and I (naively) asked how old the spring lamb was. He pointed to the fields and said "see them, there? They'll be here in 2 weeks". I felt physically sick and have never touched lamb or sheep since.

Interesting story, gillybob. My mum had a similar one to tell but it had a completely different effect on her. She was at the butcher buying a joint of beef and asked how fresh it was. Butcher said: "I saw it running around this morning." My mum thought: "Sounds good to me."

We don't have cupcakes, we have buns, it's how we were brought up.

I wonder what that artificial cream was made of? Probably sugar and lard (yuk) and I remember being sent to the local baker's with a big jam which they filled with cream and then DM used it on a trifle.

I wonder where all the defenders of " our country ", and " our traditions" got their information.
I have worked in schools for many years, and they ALL had blackboards.
The Red Cross were NOT forbidden to have nativity scenes.
We are NOT told we cannot wear crosses.
I have never seen "Christmas" replaced by " Winter".
" Happy Holidays " is used to recognise Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Yalda, though I have rarely seen it used here.

Maybe get information from somewhere other than the Daily Mail.
