I recently went shopping with a friend and I bought a pair of denim three quarter jeans. I have several pairs of these for holidays etc. She said do you really need them as at the end of the year you will be 70 and denim should not be worn. I still bought them am I too old to wear denim.

Like a lot of you on here I seem to live in my black denim jeans. I went shopping yesterday to buy a replacement pair for when I go out and, holding up the new pair against the ones I was wearing, I was shocked at how faded, grey and scruffy through so much use my old ones were.
So, as long as your jeans look like my new ones and not my old ones, I think they are perfectly normal and acceptable. I don't feel out of place when I wear them - tho I will save the pad ones for 'round the house' as my mum used to say.

Old not pad!

Wear your denim! Jeans are possibly the most versatile item ever. I like dressing them up for evening with high heels & a smart sassy jacket.

The only downside is the trying on saga ..... Exhausting. So if you've found some that suit you then buy loads more.

Ps I also have a tiny denim jacket to wear over summer dresses which covers the flabby arms someone mentioned. Flabby arms look fine with a tan!

I am 79and have just bought a pair of stone washed jeans , I like denim to hold in my flabby tummy blush

NfkDumpling Thu 23-Mar-17 12:36:16

I have dark blue denim, light blue denim, brown denim, grey denim white denim and black denim. And a couple of pairs of black trousers for really posh. I also have a couple of dresses somewhere, but I forget what they look like.

I've got a denim dress which I wear a lot dressing it up or down as appropriate. I just love it. I've also got jeans - the usual zip front ones and also pull ons which I'm wearing at present because I've had some tummy muscle probs - hopefully now getting sorted. I've also got a denim jacket which DC think is 'cool'. Yep! denim for me. If you like it WEAR IT! Never mind what others think - it's what YOU like that matters.

Hi, am amazed that anyone would say that there is a cut off age for denims. Don't take her with you again as she sounds either dated or toxic AND I'll bet that you paid for lunch or coffee for you both!

Will keep wearing my denims but won't be bearing my tum ..... will certainly leave that to the teenagers!

I was watching Mary Berry last night and she was wearing......... DENIM go for it I say.

Caro1954 Thu 23-Mar-17 16:02:08

Wear what makes you happy!

Daddima Thu 23-Mar-17 16:12:53

Your friend is correct. Get yourself a nice crinoline. You know it makes sense.

pinkjj27 Thu 23-Mar-17 16:42:08

Yes give them up and go naked!!! Or do what you did and wear them anyway. You go girl.

joannewton46 Thu 23-Mar-17 16:52:12

Definitely not!!!

rosesarered Thu 23-Mar-17 16:59:19

No Coolgran not pressed with a crease, that's a no-no! grin

shandi6570 Thu 23-Mar-17 17:24:40

Also a no-no from me is double denim, otherwise yes, I love and wear denim dressed up, dressed down, any colour, it's all good.

Legs55 Thu 23-Mar-17 17:32:25

Love my denim, navy or stonewashed in winter, white in summer mostly. Jeans, jeggings, long or cropped, I also have a pair of denim shorts (only to be worn in the garden). I also have a long denim skirt. No crimpolene for me. I do possess 2 pairs of smart black trousers & some white ones, a couple of skirts (at the back of the wardrobe along with my only dress).

Dress for comfort, don't care what others saygrin

Hi Gangan.
Ditch the 'Friend'
Buy more Jeans.
Seriously though, to quote a line from an old Pop song
"If it feels good, do it".
Life is far too short to look back and say 'I wish that I had etc......'

Lindylou23 Thu 23-Mar-17 18:11:35

Denim is better than the beige brigade that some people seem to favour over a certain age. Beige top beige trousers is a definite no no

mags1234 Thu 23-Mar-17 18:17:12

You obviously look better in jeans than she does!

Tessa101 Thu 23-Mar-17 18:26:19

Of course you can still wear denim I think your friend is wrong. My dear mum wore denim until she was 82.

Willow500 Thu 23-Mar-17 20:05:11

I've worn denim since I was 14 and having just turned 63 have no intention of stopping any time soon grin Wear your denim with pride!!

Shizam Thu 23-Mar-17 22:58:21

I remember a friend, who was a mature student, being told by a younger student that she shouldn't wear jeans because of her age. She was about 30 at the time....
It's a fabric and anyone is allowed to wear it!!!

Gangan1 Fri 24-Mar-17 11:18:52

Goodness I've just had a look at all the replies. I shall continue to wear my jeans and yes I did pay for the coffee FlorenceFlower and I do agree about double denim being a no go. Thank you all.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Fri 24-Mar-17 14:22:50

I think you should wear what you like and are comfortable in. I prefer to clothes shop alone as I've always relied on my own judgement and am strong-minded enough or bloody-minded(?) not to need a second opinion.

cangran Fri 24-Mar-17 14:40:57

Another over 70 jeans wearer here! It's funny how some 'friends' want to impose their own tastes/styles and opinions. I have one who'd always drag me away from anything vaguely mauve/purple ('That's for old ladies') until I actually stopped buying it (even though I think it goes well with my blonde/white hair and fair skin). I really prefer to shop on my own but this friend and I occasionally have weekends away and so 'do' the shops then. I usually hate spending time in shops (do most clothes shopping on-line) but now treat our shopping outings as a nice way to check out what's new, mentally making a note of things I like so I can do any shopping later on my own. Keep on wearing exactly what you like!
