Denim

I'm coming up to 71 and I'm wearing jeans more now than I did in my 50s. I do possess 3summer dresses, one of them I didn't wear at all last year and one I only wore once. Not really a dress person

Having lost a bit of weight, I'm a funny shape at the moment. Most of the poundage has come off my behind, and my paunch is slow to catch up. If I buy jeans to fit my waistline, they will be baggy round the bottom. Anyone know a brand that would suit me?

Try Next High Waist Enhancers or John Rocha 'Elsa' as these are both high rise and stretchy for comfort.

I would love to find some jeans that fit me. I need them to be stretchy for comfort and high waisted as the waist band on normal jeans is always too low and comes round my tummy - the widest bit of me. Any ideas, please. Thanks!

For the first time in many years I have found a pair of jeans I really like. Gap boot cut. Slightly stretchy. Comfortable and flattering.

It's not the fabric it's the cut that matters. Look at yourself front and back in the mirror!
The current fashion in jeans for young people seems to be tight, with horizontal gashes at intervals up the front. These are unlikely to enhance the style of anyone over 40 I'd say
Unless they had really perfected the "rock chick" look.

Rosiebee Also, it's pretty long. I'm 5'6" and I just cut a whack about 2" off all around the bottom and turned it up using Wonder Web. It dips at the sides, you don't have to be too accurate about it all.

Rosiebee The reviews all said that the dress was small fitting and to go up at least a size, I went up 2 sizes. I normally wear an 18/20. I bought the 4XL and it fits. The sizing refers to a 5XL but it didn't actually seem available and I might have given it a try.
Do take note that the advertising says these dresses were originally somewhere around £120.... there is no way that they were ever that price, the quality isn't there for that sort of money.
But for £20-ish it's fine, it sits well and I push the sleeves up (use a rubber band to hold them in place).

If I remember correctly it might have originated in China, I think it was delivered to me from Germany in about a week.

Coolgran, I ordered a dress from the same firm and it was way too tight. It put me off ordering 'your' dress. Think I'll order two sizes up. Love all those clothes.

I am sitting in my garden wearing my denim shirt dress over a navy t shirt and calf length denim coloured leggings. I guess that counts as double denim . Denim dresses are really versatile you can dress them up or down, with or without a belt, with a shirt or long sleeved top underneath. You can sit on the grass and not worry. Brilliant.

The only dresses I own are either jumper dresses to wear with leggings/jeggings and boots, or a long maxi.

I bought this 2 weeks ago and just love it, thinking about getting it in another colour. It hides a multitude of sins. Reading the reviews I ordered it up two sizes which was ideal and then also had to cut 3 inches off the bottom (health and safety .
Will wear it with flat pumps, flat sandals, possibly ankle boots.

I am nearly 69 and like a wee bit funky but always with comfort.

I wear a bikini on holiday and I am 68 and a size 18! The hotels we go to are adults only so mainly people of my generation and mainly the women are in bikinis. I also wear a sarong when I am walking about and feel I look ok. Well I must do because my husband would soon tell me if I didn't!!

You have to ignore negative people. I live in my jeans and have no intention of ever stopping.

I tend to live in my jeans they suit my lifestyle. I even have ripped ones but I do tend to only use them in the garden these days
although I do come out and natter to the neighbours in them, goodness knows what they think, not that I care.

Poly580 If anyone said I dressed in an eccentric manner I would take it as a compliment, who wants to look the same as everyone else? Your trousers sound Fab

I so agree with the NO BEIGE rule - I go for brighter colours the older I get. Hopefully, the bright colours detract from the ageing face!

I do not like jeans and there is no denim in my wardrobe. But this has been true all my adult life - nothing to do with my age.

I'd have nothing to wear if jeans were banned! Agree they hold the tummy in and are so useful when with grandchildren as they don't show marks once they're a bit worn.

Wear what you like, at what age you like, I say. Due to a sensitive and painful nephrectomy scar on my waistline I can't wear waistbands, but if I could I would wear jeans too.

Another over 70 jeans wearer here! It's funny how some 'friends' want to impose their own tastes/styles and opinions. I have one who'd always drag me away from anything vaguely mauve/purple ('That's for old ladies') until I actually stopped buying it (even though I think it goes well with my blonde/white hair and fair skin). I really prefer to shop on my own but this friend and I occasionally have weekends away and so 'do' the shops then. I usually hate spending time in shops (do most clothes shopping on-line) but now treat our shopping outings as a nice way to check out what's new, mentally making a note of things I like so I can do any shopping later on my own. Keep on wearing exactly what you like!

I think you should wear what you like and are comfortable in. I prefer to clothes shop alone as I've always relied on my own judgement and am strong-minded enough or bloody-minded(?) not to need a second opinion.

Goodness I've just had a look at all the replies. I shall continue to wear my jeans and yes I did pay for the coffee FlorenceFlower and I do agree about double denim being a no go. Thank you all.

I remember a friend, who was a mature student, being told by a younger student that she shouldn't wear jeans because of her age. She was about 30 at the time....
It's a fabric and anyone is allowed to wear it!!!
